NEURODIVERGENCE
When Neurodivergent Writers Collaborate
Oh right, we have a Facebook group
Collaborate, they say.
You’ll get more done, they say.
You can share the workload, they say.
What else do they say? I’m sure they say other things. But I think the point is, collaboration is a good thing. Who are THEY anyway? They’re the ones that, you know, say things. What they don’t say is, how dangerous it is to collaborate with a fellow neurodivergent.
Recipe for Oops, I forgot!
Yep. That’s what me and my bestie, Kristy, did. As neurodivergent writers, we had so many ideas and so many good intentions. But we’ve done so many things together and then forgotten they exist. Like for example, we have a Facebook group. I forgot about it. Pretty sure she did too.
We have about 30 people in our closed group, mostly other writers in similar genres, good people to be developing connections with. And we forgot it existed. Out of sight, out of mind, right? That holds true in way too many areas.
Oh right, that thing we did
I rediscovered our Facebook group a few weeks ago. I thought, “I should be posting links on there, sharing my writing, posting more of our Character Collective stuff,” because hell, it’s our group. For us as writers, it’s part of our Character Collective collaboration. The whole branded package (I use that loosely) — We’re unprofessional writers, doing a thing… But often, we just forget to do the thing. So, I went on the group, and said, “Hi,” to everyone and told them we hadn’t forgotten about them (well, we had, but we were coming back) and then proceeded to forget it existed again.
I remembered it again a few days ago. So now my challenge is whenever I write something on here that’s appropriate for our Facebook group to post it on there. I mean, that’s what it’s there for, anyway. That’s why we created it. But the REAL challenge is to remember to share it across. I mean, sure, I could write it down but then I have to remember to check where I wrote it down. Now, because this is a collaboration, you would think I could have Kristy remind me, but they’re also neurodivergent. I’m not going to remember to remind them either.
So we’re screwed.
But hey, at least we have the Facebook group. That’s something, right?
