When Nature’s Art Becomes Everlasting

Capturing nature’s beauty during sunset

Photographs are art. The kind of art that has two artists working on it. Nature is the first one. Creating beauty. The photographer is the second artist. Seeing the beauty. Recognizing the scene as artwork and capturing it in the end.

For eternity. Once a moment got photographed it is there. The flower won’t wither. The plant won’t dry out. The beauty of the object won’t fade. It’s saved forever. Captured in a photograph.

So I guess I am some kind of artist too. Looking for the beauty in nature’s endless landscapes. With my eyes on the ground focussing on the first plants pushing through the soil.

Because this is what fascinates me. Those delicate plants growing in these harsh surroundings. Thriving in a lifeless area.

It’s magical. In my eyes. I admire nature as an artist. So much variety is out there. So much beauty. It seems endless. Until we arrive and destroy it all.

So here I want to capture it for eternity. Not only for those who are locked inside their four walls or in the landscape of a city. Also for those who aren’t born yet and might never get to witness such beauty.

Living in a desert country, for several hours a day you can’t do much or go anywhere. The midday sun has to be avoided and therefore most of my photography walks have happened during sunset. And some while the sun was rising on the horizon.

Which is beneficial to the images. The twilight is the best light for photographing objects.

The setting sun can be distracting as well. Pulling my focus away from the flowers. Shifting the viewfinder onto the sun itself. Because there’s no such thing as having too many sunset photographs.

And before you forget why you went out there you almost step on another one. Another plant growing in between the rocks. Because rocks aren’t stopping them from thriving. They’ll get through anything. Anywhere.

Finishing off this article with one last picture demonstrating nature is also working with lines and order.

This has been my first photo essay displaying nature’s artwork. In a selection, I created and enjoyed working on. Feel free to leave me some feedback.

All photographs have been taken with my Canon 750D.
