There’s this saying that if you truly find what you love to do, you’ll never work a day in your life. Perhaps it’s true for some, but it’s not true for all. For some, passion directly relates to motivation; for others, they could have all the passion in the world but struggle with other aspects that make it tough for them to implement their goals.

For me, (lack of) attention is a big piece that made motivation hard to chase after. The shame that came with being labelled “lazy” often added counterproductive weight to an existing burden. So, I compensated by working longer to the detriment of actually taking care of myself, just to escape this label. It didn’t solve anything.

The actual solution turned out to be finding a system that played to my strengths to help me work around my weaknesses. Make tools work for you rather than relying on “sheer willpower”.
