When I Look At You, I See a Beautiful Woman
My girlfriend doesn’t like for me to say she’s pretty.

My girlfriend doesn’t like for me to say she’s pretty. I’m allowed to say she’s attractive, wild in bed, or hot, but not pretty. She doesn’t consider herself pretty.
Physically, she’s a large woman. She’s tall and muscular, with some extra padding. You wouldn’t see her in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, but you might find her in the arm wrestling magazines. (See “My girlfriend is a Hooker…” story link below).
I suppose that she doesn’t conform to popular standards of beauty.
Other people’s ideas of beauty don’t concern me. Their standards guided me when I was a teenager and young man, but not now. When I was in high school and college, I’d only ask girls out that I thought my friends would find attractive rather than asking out girls with whom I felt comfortable.
My girlfriend has a pleasant face, a radiant smile, and a meticulously prepped appearance appropriate for the occasion. She has what I look for; a pleasing appearance, a great personality, and being physically affectionate.
So why won’t she let me say she’s pretty. She says she doesn’t feel pretty. Yes, she cares about the way she dresses. She dresses for business. She brushes her hair and meticulously attends to her clothes. It’s okay that I say she looks cute. I’m allowed to note that she dressed nicely, did her nails, or prepped her hair.
Yesterday, I didn’t tell her she was pretty. I said, “When I look at you, I see a beautiful woman.” Her smile was brighter than the sun.
