When Ego Strikes Back

Day 3 of a 10-day poetry challenge

Photo by Kat Smith from Pexels

A wounded ego never knows what it’s like to give freely. A wounded ego never feels how it’s like to give freely. A wounded ego is trapped in a negative vicious cycle.

A healthy ego always knows what it’s like to give freely. A healthy ego always feels how it’s like to give freely. A healthy ego is freed in a positive virtuous cycle.

How much do we give ourselves without expectations? How much can we give ourselves without regard? When we give, do we honestly give with expectations or without?

Are expectations, therefore, selfish?

Ego when wounded repeatedly is like a soldier in a century-old Middle Eastern war. He is never given a chance to heal right. He has never met an opportunity to feel what is wholesome.

How, then, does a wounded ego know how to give anymore, without wounding itself further and others?

Thank you for reading. For more of my short-form reads and poetry,

Tagging a KTHT recent piece by JoJo on the journey of loving self and others, which I find also relates to our ego speaking.
