We will put the handler function, along with our Python dependencies, in a sub-directory called <code>ebay_deal_scraper</code>. This will allow us to separate the files which will be part of the Lambda package, and ancillary project files such as the Serverless config file discussed in later steps.</p><p id="2abf">We name our handler function <code>scrape</code> and give it the signature required by Lambda. Find the role for your Lambda function, in our case <code>ebay-deal-scraper-dev-us-east-1-lambdaRole</code> and add a policy which allows it to access S3. <code>AmazonS3FullAccess</code> will work for our demo, though in production you may want to create a new policy which is more restrictive.</p><p id="e0d1">Once your function is deployed you should also be able to view and test it from the AWS console.</p><figure id="dc68"><img src="https://cdn-images-1.readmedium.com/v2/resize:fit:800/1*A1uCWEB2Hb-YS7lMEiXCww.png"><figcaption></figcaption></figure><h1 id="6080">Step 7: Scheduling the Lambda Function Using CloudWatch</h1><p id="8cd3">Final step! Go to the CloudWatch Management Page and click the<code>Rules</code> tab. Under Event Source, select <code>Schedule</code> and fill in a cron expression. We set ours to run every day at 6PM GMT, or afternoon in US Eastern Time. Next, in the <code>Targets</code> section, choose <code>Lambda function</code> in the select and then your Lambda function from the list in the <code>Function</code> select. I hope this gives a taste of the technologies involved, though each of them could be the subject of many, many blog posts.</p><p id="f860">As far as scraping goes, with the rise of big data/machine learning, data acquisition is becoming more and more important. When a Piano Doesn’t Sound Like a Piano

The power of collaboration brings music to life in amazing ways

This is my next story in a series of articles responding to Dr Mehmet Yildiz’s challenge to produce a short quality article with three take home points each day for thirty days.

I have chosen to use Wikipedia’s main page as inspiration, choosing one topic from the “Did You Know” section as topical encouragement.

With a story of incidental heroism and inspiration akin to the character in the movie Forrest Gump, the Siena Piano is remarkable for its history and unique sound.

Started in 1799 by harpsichord maker Sebastian Marchisio and finished by his family several years later after his death, the Siena Piano was first given as a wedding gift to Marchisio’s granddaughter.

From there, the piano began a storied journey across several continents and centuries to reside today in Caesarea, Israel.

An early notable stop was the Paris World’s Fair in 1867, then it was given again as a gift by its namesake city Siena to King Umberto I of Italy and then subsequently fell into Nazi possession.

Recovered in storage in North Africa, coated in plaster, by the British in 1942 it was then used by a group of entertainers traveling to perform for wounded after the war. After a brief stopover and renewal in a Tel Aviv piano workshop it once again toured and was featured in a famous public recital for Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion on the day Israel announced its independence.

Making its way through Europe, the storied piano then travelled to America where it resided at Steinway hall for many years and was featured in recordings. The piano again received extensive refurbishing in America, and at the behest of Marie-Jose de Savoia, then Queen of Spain, was shipped to Jerusalem for the United Nations’ International Year of the Child Declaration.

Today the piano is held by a private collector.

What We Can Learn from the Siena Piano

An upright two pedal piano adorned with wood carvings and paintings, the instrument was a collective work began by Marchisio and initially completed by his grandson, a renowned wood carver, along with several other artists and craftsmen.

Renowned virtuoso pianist Lazare Levy called the piano, “The most astonishing I have come across”. The Siena Piano is also called The Immortal Piano and the Harp of King David, the latter name owing to a bas relief carving of the Harp of David surrounded by laurel leaves and in part due to the legend that the instrument was constructed from wood taken from the Pillars of King Solomon.

The instrument is said to sound at times like a piano, a harpsichord, a lute, a harp or a guitar, depending on the musical work being played. And pianists using the Immortal Piano are said to fall in love with it because playing it is an amazing and unique experience.
