WRITING

What’s With the Google History?

Day 31 Preptober writing prompt challenge

Day 31: Happy Halloween! What is the weirdest thing that you have Googled, as an author?

Question from the Preptober 31 Day Challenge from the Character Collective.

If I die, DELETE my Google history!

It’s the final day of our Preptober challenges and what a question to end on! The weirdest thing I’ve Google as an author? Oh dear, lord, I’ve Googled many, many things over the years and to name the weirdest is going to take probably more thought than I’m actually capable of because to be quite honest, I put toffee vodka in my coffee. But that’s a whole other story.

Flashbacks of Googles past

Let me start with a list of some of the things I can remember Googling. This is definitely not an exhaustive list but let’s play.

  • Where to stab a man where he won’t die/will die
  • Blood consumption versus absorption
  • How much blood a body can lose before unconsciousness/death
  • The most efficient way to choke someone
  • Vampire DNA/RNA
  • Brain neurology (for zombie consumption)
  • Rigor mortis and body decomposition
  • Butt plugs
  • Poisonous plants
  • Metoidioplasty and phalloplasty
  • Mosquito bite (mechanics and allergies)
  • Government microchipping (conspiracies, techniques, etc)

Ah, wait! And that’s led me to recognize what is probably the weirdest thing I’ve ever Googled — at least that I can remember. Or, perhaps the most disturbing.

She needed new batteries

I have a series due for release in 2022 — the Death Wish Foundation. There is a disturbing scene in which a character is ‘activated’ and he kills the person nearest to him in any way possible. In this case, they are waiting in line at a service station. He sees batteries. He pops a pack and immediately proceeds to force them down the throat of the woman standing in front of him.

So, I had to google what size batteries and how many he could shove down her throat. It turned out the ideal was four, sized C.

What’s Next?

Preptober is done and now, it’s time for NaNoWriMo! Head over to the Rainbow Circus publication for daily check-ins. Ok, I’ll try to make them daily but I’ll probably have a break at some point. Come play at the Rainbow Circus!
