Fiction Friends Prompts #1 — What’s the Dream, Fiction Writers of Medium?
What inspired you to share your fiction here?

There are plenty of fiction writers on Medium, but oftentimes we struggle to find each other, like stars sprinkled in space with vast distance between.
Fiction Friends is a new, experimental publication designed to create a place for fiction writers to advertise their stories, no matter where or when they were published on Medium. (See the latest issue here.)
Today, we’ll also be adding a new feature to the publication: Fiction Friends Prompts, which invite fiction writers and readers to leave a comment or write a story responding to a prompt about fiction.
The idea is that through talking about fiction and our relationship with it, we can share about ourselves and learn about what kinds of writers and readers we are, which will help foster new connections on Medium.
Today’s Prompt
What’s your dream for your fiction writing on Medium?
What inspired you to share your fiction here?
Are you tipping your toe in fiction writing for the first time, or is Medium literally just a new medium for you?
Do you have aspirations to be traditionally published, or are you hoping to become a successful web fiction writer, or both?
To respond to the prompt, you can either:
- Hop in the comments section and share your thoughts.
- Publish a story with your answer to the prompt! Please link back to the prompt in your story, and tag the Fiction Friends admin account so we can feature it in a future issue of Prompts. Also, feel free to post the link to your response in the prompt story’s comment thread!
For the time being (so the Editor doesn’t bite off more than she can chew 😉), we are not accepting writers or submissions to Fiction Friends, so if you respond to a prompt via story, please feel free to publish it anywhere.
There’s also no deadline on responding to these prompts: respond whenever and however you like!
This particular prompt was inspired by a couple of recent stories by fiction writers on Medium.
The sisters and fiction writers CleverandWtf wrote an excellent piece talking about their experience publishing fiction online and all of the benefits they’ve discovered in the process:
Lark Morrigan talks about her high aspirations for composing music and writing poetry and fiction in a world where talented artists often don’t receive recognition:
Lastly, if you haven’t caught up on this week’s story listings yet, check out the latest issue of Fiction Friends:
E. Ardincaple is a fantasy and fairy tale writer. She is passionate about web fiction and is the creator of Fiction Friends, a publication for helping fiction writers connect with readers on Medium. When she’s not dreaming up a new story, you’ll find her lost in a painting, or a song, or a blue sky.
