What’s So Good About Oranges, Anyway?
The Orange Journal has hit 2k followers!

When I created The Orange Journal on Medium, I never could have predicted how many folks across the globe its words would reach. It was born one summer afternoon in July of 2020 as I contemplated a sacred name. One that would be true to me and my values for the pub. The name came to me rapidly as I held my beloved orange journal close. A wrinkled and well-loved book that knows more about me than anyone in the world.
The Orange Journal came to fruition, and to date has amassed hundreds of thousands of reads, with nearly 300k minutes read just over the past 90 days.

We are also approaching 1200 contributing writers. That’s like, a lot!!
How has this happened?
Consistency.
For the first ~year+ of the pub’s existence, I was the only writer. I didn’t even try to recruit others. Frankly, I didn’t even know if it was something I wanted to do. I made it because I wanted something to call mine. I wanted to make my mark in my random corner of the internet.
Mostly, I wanted to help others improve the quality of their life.
I remember being so excited about the first 30+strangers that followed TOJ. Random people on the internet that actually liked what I had to say!

And now, The Orange Journal has hit 2k followers and counting!

So to celebrate, some fun facts about oranges! Because why not?
Why You Should Eat More🍊
Everyone knows they have Vitamin C, essential for so many things. Vitamin C helps to heal wounds and keeps your gums healthy. 😲 It also repairs damage to your blood vessels and makes bruises disappear faster. C strengthens your immune response and helps you fight off the common cold and regular germs in your environment. It helps you recover faster too.
Oranges are great in more ways than one!
- They’re high in fiber, which can help to regulate digestion and support weight loss.
- They have antioxidants that fight free radicals and keep the body in tip-top shape.
- They’re a good source of potassium, essential for maintaining blood pressure levels and heart health.
Some Orange History🍊
Most historians believe that oranges originated in Southeast Asia, specifically in the region that is now known as Vietnam. From there, they spread to India, the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe.
The first recorded mention of oranges in Europe was in Sicily in the 11th century. By the 15th century, oranges were being grown in Spain and Portugal. They were introduced to America by Spanish colonists in the 16th century.
While I have always loved oranges in all of its forms (raw fruit, OJ, smoothies, and frozen treats,) they have taken on a new meaning for me.
