What You’re Writing Isn’t Poetry
a poem that you’re allowed to pretend isn’t poetry, but that I’m calling a poem anyways

the first poem I ever wrote was about how what I had written was not poetry.
perhaps it was pre-emptive, already fighting off criticism from people who gatekeep and clearly delineate what counts as art and what they clearly label as trash.
yet trash to you may be treasure to me.
where my words may not be art by some homogenous norm set by some group, perhaps they are art to me, perhaps they mean far more to me than to you, perhaps they were meant not for you, Loud and Space-Taker-Upper, but for once, dedicated to an audience not usually spoken to.
maybe what I write is not poetry. maybe poetry exists beyond your rules.

Hi I’m Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) and some days, I write for me. And that’s just as important as writing to communicate, writing to heal, writing to connect. ❤ PS, I PUBLISHED A BOOK 📚
