What You Need To Do To Achieve Your Dream Life

Imagine your best future right now. What’s stopping you from getting it?

Everyone has some sort of dreams and aspirations they hope they’ll achieve one day. Some of them are small; some are massive.

Over the course of the last few weeks, I’ve been ticking off things I once used to dream about, and it got me thinking, how many people are out there right now daydreaming of a better life but doubtful of their ability to go after it?

Yesterday I sold my car and went straight to the Audi dealership to buy my dream car. I’m still pinching myself. Did I really just do that? Did I really drive off the lot in a brand new Audi? Are you kidding me?

This is one of the many blessings I’ve experienced lately, and it’s all because of the hard work I’ve been putting in over the course of the last two years.

I’m writing this because I know you want something. I know you have a picture of a beautiful life in your head, and every time you close your eyes, you see it. You’re just scared, and you don’t know what to do.

Here are a few things that helped me.

Stop thinking about your shortcomings.

I’ve always been extremely insecure about myself in almost every aspect.

I dropped out of college, so how on earth could I ever become a successful writer? I moved to a different state with no solid job prospects, so how on earth could I support myself? I’m incredibly indecisive, so how can I trust myself to make the right decision? I’ve never done x, y, or z, so how will I know how to go about doing those things the correct way?

We’ve all got a trunk of insecurities we like to travel with. Sometimes we open it up and pick it apart, dwelling on each little thing.

What good does that do?

The more negativity you put out, the more it’ll come right back to you. The more you say, “I can’t do this,” the more likely you won’t even be given the opportunity.

Learn to be aware of your internal dialogue, and when you catch yourself speaking negatively about what you can or can’t do, then break the thought process.

Speak positive affirmations, remind yourself of what you’ve already accomplished. I always ask myself why whenever I start thinking negatively. What makes me think I’m not good enough? Who told me I can’t? Have I even tried?

Aren’t the consequences of not trying greater than trying?

Don’t listen to a single person who says you can’t do it.

Also, don’t listen to anyone who asks you why you want to do it.

My ex-boyfriend told me moving to Los Angeles was the stupidest decision I’d ever make, and I would come running back to Washington within a matter of months.

I’ve been in LA for over 3 years now, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I love my life here. The opportunities that I’ve been offered are ones I would have never even dreamt of had I stayed in Washington.

I’ve received incredible job opportunities from major companies. I started a YouTube channel. I write for a living. I live less than a ten minute walk away from the ocean. I have a beautiful life all because I went for it.

When you have big dreams, other people will always try to pull you down. They’ll try to warn you and tell you it’s too expensive, or they’ll say it’s a waste of time, or that you won’t find a good job.

They want to hold you back because they’re holding themselves back. They don’t believe they’re capable of it, so they’re mad that you’re out here doing the damn thing.

Don’t listen to them. If you feel like you’re capable of achieving it — or even if you’re uncertain, but there’s a tiny part of you that’s telling you to go for it, then do it.

The universe has limitless abundance available for everyone who is willing to put in the necessary work.

Don’t listen to anyone who says you can’t have what you want out of life. There are so many people out there succeeding and making their dreams happen against all odds. You’re just as capable.

Don’t think about your setbacks. Be a forward thinker.

It’s easy to get discouraged, especially when you think about all of the things you want and all of the things you have yet to do to get there.

Your dreams won’t materialize overnight, but if you focus forward, and can see your dream in your mind before it happens, then your subconscious will know what to move toward.

As you put all of your focus on what can be, imagine all of the opportunities that will one day come your way. Imagine how you’ll feel when you actually accomplish your first goal, then your second, and so on.

Forward-thinkers don’t get stuck into the past or possible negative outcomes. Whatever happened or could happened, they leave it be and keep on moving forward. They don’t carry baggage with them. Failure or adversities don’t stop them.

Get out of your comfort zone.

You might need to move to a new city and leave your old life behind. You might need to cut off relationships that aren’t serving you.

You might need to change course after thinking it was the right one for years. You might not ever use your college degree. You might need to seek out help.

You might need to take some risks that feel incredibly uncomfortable, but a small part of you knows it’s the right move. When I got laid off, I panicked. I didn’t know what to do and where to go — obviously, I had to look for another job, one that was similar to the tech role I was already in.

But, another part of me said, “What if you don’t? What if you look at this as an opportunity to make something of yourself?”

Financially, it was risky. Emotionally, it was beyond stressful.

The greatest opportunities come with risk and a little (or a lot of) anxiety. You won’t ever feel “comfortable” entering a new season in your life. You’ve never done it before, so how would you even know how to do it? It takes time and patience.

Don’t be afraid to seize an opportunity when you see it. You deserve to reach your dreams.

Takeaways.

Accomplishing your goals won’t be easy, obstacles are abundant. Stress is unlimited. You’ll feel like quitting. But remember this whenever you feel down: Anything worth having will never come easy. Don’t turn around and don’t give up. Keep pushing.

And focus on the following:

  • Stop thinking about your shortcomings. In fact, forget about them. If you’re physically healthy and mentally sane, you can do it if you really want it.
  • Don’t listen to a single person who says you can’t do it. Not even your ex boyfriend, not your bestie, and not your parents.
  • Don’t think about your setbacks. Shit happens. Be a forward-thinker.
  • Get out of your comfort zone. You’re never going to achieve your dream life living the same lifestyle you’ve been living for years. Do something outside of the box you’ve created for yourself.
