What Would William Golding Say?
A Poem

Once I came upon a shell, and wondered, “Please, Dear Conch, if you could tell
“us why you became a sign of when to rebel against authority in that book we dwell
“upon when our English teachers sell its symbolism, words and fell…
“…owship of seven boys, whose bell gets rung by avarice, a special Hell
“brought on by beast, sow and a special smell of freedom from the greed they try to quell.
“Hieroglyphs the teacher then compels us to learn about those Flies. Oh, Lord; oh, well.”
