I recently wrote an article titled 10 Emerging Technologies to Change Our Lives and Global Economy Starting in 2030. My predictions were wild but grounded in extensive research and hands-on experience with technological and scientific advancements. I leverage technology and science to enhance health outcomes and invest in technology stocks, drawing from my expertise in emerging technologies.

Some subscribers who know about my tech background wanted to know what will happen to the tech industry in 2024. Since we are approaching the new year, I want to share my predictions and perspectives in this story briefly.

Considering my involvement as a senior technology consultant and reviews as a postdoctoral researcher, I expect several technological issues in 2023 will likely dominate discussions and shape the technological landscape in 2024 more intensely.

I’d like to summarize the highlights and introduce you to relevant and interesting articles in this concise story.

1 — AI Ethics

As artificial intelligence permeates all industries, concerns regarding ethical use, bias, and accountability in AI algorithms can intensify. Strides in creating fair and transparent AI systems while addressing biases will be an essential topic to be discussed and tackled. As mentioned before, AI ethics matter as we are about to enter the area of artificial superintelligence.

2 — Generative AI

Generative AI will take center stage in 2024, pushing boundaries across various domains. Its prowess in creating art, music, and literature will reach new heights, blurring the lines between human and machine creativity. It might streamline workflows and enhance productivity in design and content creation.

However, ethical concerns amplify regarding deepfakes and misinformation, emphasizing the urgent need for stringent regulations. Collaboration between AI and humans emerges as a critical focus, underlining the importance of responsible AI development and its impact on society.

3 — Privacy

With the increasing collection and utilization of personal data, preserving user privacy and strengthening data protection measures will remain on the global agenda. Stricter regulations and heightened awareness about data privacy violations will be focal points. I curated an insightful story written by Mike Grindle.

4 — Cybersecurity

The increasing cyber threat landscape will persist, prompting the need for more sophisticated cybersecurity measures by government authorities and organizations. Protecting against ransomware attacks and data breaches and ensuring critical infrastructure security will be critical. 5 — Environment and Sustainability

6 — Healthcare

In 2024, biotechnology stands at the forefront of transformative innovations. Vaccine development and immunotherapy see continual progress, strengthening disease management.

Biomanufacturing for sustainable products, synthetic biology for diverse applications, and bioinformatics for data analysis lead the way in sustainable solutions and novel creations.

Ethical debates around biosecurity and responsible biotech use highlight the need for careful consideration amid these monumental advancements. I documented my perspectives on biotech and infotech ethics in 2021.

8 — FinTech

Governments worldwide will likely continue efforts to regulate big tech companies, addressing antitrust issues, monopolistic practices, and the control of vast amounts of user data by tech giants. Fintech, short for financial technology, refers to innovative digital solutions and technology-driven advancements revolutionizing and optimizing various aspects of financial services and transactions. 9 — Blockchain

Regarding antitrust, blockchain technology might find broader applications beyond cryptocurrencies, including supply chain management, voting systems, and digital identity verification, enabling trust and transparency in various sectors. For those who are unfamiliar with blockchain, I wrote an informative article in 2019.

10 — Quantum Computing

Research and development in quantum computing will progress, aiming to solve complex problems and unlock new capabilities previously unattainable with classical computing. I wrote a book chapter about quantum computing to give my readers a background on its relationship with artificial intelligence.

Conclusions

I expect these issues to significantly shape technological discourse, innovation, and policy decisions in 2024, influencing how society interacts and benefits from technological advancements.
