What The Hell Is Going On In My Mind

Photo by Anthony Tori on Unsplash

Be careful about your thoughts!

Observe the narrative of your thinking.

Keep asking yourself: “Is this what I really want?”

If the answer is NO, then you should change it.

And adopt a new belief.

Strange things can happen when you’re not in control of your thinking.

“Your mind will take on the character of your most frequent thoughts”

Marcus Aurelius: Meditations

You might:

  • Make decisions you don’t want
  • Hang out with people you don’t like
  • Do boring things

All of that is just because you have a belief that this is how it’s supposed to be.

Yesterday, I realized that I had a huge problem

Photo by Nik Shuliahin 💛💙 on Unsplash

Even though I would like to:

  • Build an incredible online business
  • Live a millionaire’s lifestyle
  • Create outstanding content

I discovered that this scares me.

My subconscious mind believes that college would be a safer choice.

(*In Slovenia college is free. Students get a scholarship and don’t need to work)

So it deflected me from my desired life. In college:

  • Nothing could go wrong
  • No chance of bankruptcy
  • Mum would be there for me

I just need to show up and pass the exams.

That’s what I was thinking.

Realizing that shocked me. This way of thinking probably sabotaged my success. I was afraid of success!

I saw business success in the following way:

  • Can run out of money
  • Parents wouldn’t be there for me
  • I can get to a place with bad food (wink wink)

I saw my success as a danger!

Pay attention to your thoughts, it creates both miracles and disasters.

Nitin Namdeo

I made an urgent intervention!

Photo by Marcos Paulo Prado on Unsplash
  1. I wrote down my beliefs
  2. Found a root cause — I asked myself: “Why do I believe this?”
  3. Evaluated the response
  4. Transformed my beliefs into empowering ones
  5. Talked about it with my fiancée (the best mental health coach I know)

I felt a surge of happiness, love, and liberation in my heart.

I knew that was my biggest problem. The reason why my business isn’t making money. The reason why I often feel stuck.

The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.”

Frank Lloyd Wright

This quote beautifully captures the essence of my problem.

Beliefs can go in both ways:

  • Lead you to success
  • Lead you to failure

It only depends on the type of beliefs you have.

You always need to have beliefs that lead to success.

I discovered that I wanted to work on my business. That college is just a “job” that pays the bills till I start making money. That I dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur.

So why would I postpone that for 3 more years?

What would change?

Why would it be easier?

Why would it be safer?

Why would I work on my business if I am actually afraid of success?

Why would I push myself hard, create content, and study my craft so diligently if I don’t want to live a millionaire’s lifestyle?

Why would I be afraid of my dreams?

Why would I strive for something dangerous?

Why do I really want my parents’ support?

Why don’t I just settle for less?

Would they sue me because I plan to work on my business while just passing the college with a minimal effort?

THAT WAS A RED FLAG!

Who the hell would sue me? Who would even be offended? This was a clear sign of overthinking.

Overthinking combined with limiting beliefs. That was a destruction plan!

I needed to make a complete shift!

So I wrote:

  • I want to be an entrepreneur, I won’t settle for less
  • Success now is equally safe than success in 3 years
  • Nobody would be offended, so nobody would sue me
  • I will keep working hard and won’t force results
  • I want it, so I will work for it, and have it

I reframed my negative beliefs into empowering statements.

I felt an immediate difference. Today I work harder and have better ideas. My creativity skyrocketed!

This mindset shift alone can make a huge difference.

It’s time for you to do the same

I invite you to evaluate the quality of your thoughts and examine

  • Which of them serve you
  • And which don’t

So do the following:

  1. Write down your thoughts for 10 minutes (don’t filter)
  2. Identify thoughts that don’t serve you
  3. Ask yourself: “Why do I believe this to be true?”
  4. Evaluate the response
  5. Now you know that you don’t need to be afraid
  6. Reframe your belief into empowering one
