What I’ve Learned So Far Writing on Medium in 2022

It’s never too late to start!

I’ve written 30 stories so far on Medium this year and I’m proud of myself for continuing to show up and write something every day.

Some days I publish a story, sometimes I don’t, but I’m writing every day and that makes me very happy.

Here’s some of the things I’ve been writing about that might help you on your own writing journey.

Have you ever really thought about why you want to write? The answer may surprise you.

It can be hard to carve out time for your writing, especially when your days are already filled with taking care of family, work and unexpected little road blocks.

It’s all too easy to say to yourself, “My plate is too full, I don’t have the time to write.”

Before you know it, years have passed and you still aren’t writing. So maybe it’s time for you to write yourself a permission slip to start writing now.

One of the many joys I’ve found on Medium is the chance to encourage other writers. I love being able to read other writers’ work and provide encouragement via claps and comments.

Feedback is priceless to writers and provides validation that all their hard work is worth it.

All writers struggle with the first draft and it’s OK if it’s messy — that’s just part of the process. Done is better than perfect!

I used to dramatically exclaim, “I don’t know what to write about.”

But really, I was just giving myself an excuse not to write.

Ideas are everywhere if you’re willing to look for them.

Fear is a powerful thing and it can keep you sitting on the sidelines, afraid to write.

But you can choose to tell fear to shove off and start writing anyway.

I changed a lot of things about how I write in 2022 and I’m so glad I did. Here’s my current process flow.

I finally took the plunge and decided to become an editor for the Medium publication, MIDFORM. It’s been great fun and very enlightening to be on the other side of the writer’s desk.

Takeaway

It’s never too late to start writing with joy. Take the leap and do what you want to do, the way you want to do it.

Get out there and start writing today!
