What Is Your Happy Digital Space?
Day Five of the 10-Day Shortform Challenge
It seems counter-productive to me to talk about a happy place in the digital realm. I am a fan of forest bathing and being one with nature.
This is one reason why Nicole Hilbig’s article on Why Digital Detox is Vital in Times of Pandemics really resonated with me. I live the benefits she speaks to weekly. I invite others to take in her piece and be inspired to do the same:
Nicole shares 7 ways to reduce pandemic stress. For me, going completely off-grid is a weekly ritual. And yet, here I am, about to talk about a happy space in the digital realm — how bizarre is that?
Tom Fenske asks about one’s happy space in the digital realm in The Shortform Writing Challenge. I made a public commitment to participate and not one to go back on my word, I start typing.
This action is exactly why Medium is my digital happy place (in this chapter of my life, anyway). I am surrounded by a community of inspiring writers and readers who support my work, baring my soul in ways I never imagined — which is only possible when one feels safe.
One might think “a safe space on the internet” is an oxymoron.
For me, the Medium community is a safe and encouraging space. It affords me the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and grow personally, professionally — and make a few new friends along the way. I’d say that defines “a happy place” quite well.
How about you?
This is a part of the 10-Day Shortform Writing Challenge introduced by Tom Fenske and is complementing a challenge extended by Zulie Rane to write every day this month. Thanks to those who are supporting me on this journey — to name just a few: Donnette Anglin, Charles Amemiya, Kristina God, Nicole Hilbig, GB Rogut, April Aadi, David Ferrers, Courtney Crawford, Gary Buzzard, and Sara Burdick.
