What Is Slow Travel?

It’s a way of life that gets you thinking of travel differently

Slow travel brings us back to the reasons why we travel. Everyone can travel slow— it’s a way of life that gets you thinking of travel differently.

When travelling slow, you can take the time to get to know local villages and cities that you may usually miss out on when travelling to somewhere new for a week.

Slow travel allows you to switch up the jam-packed busy trips, replacing them with stepping headfirst into new cultures and meeting locals.

Travelling this way allows you to prioritise experiences over tourist attractions.

How ‘slow’ is slow travel?

This is totally up to you. It’s about travelling at the right speed, for you — pace your time in a place rather than rushing. Usually, I stay in a place for 2–3 months and feel that's just enough time to get to know the place. When starting out as a Digital Nomad, I travelled a lot quicker, I’ve learnt to slow down and enjoy more.

Over the years of travelling, I’ve mostly found mainstream travel exhausting and stressful — I’ll always run out of time and leave somewhere sad because I didn’t tick everything off my to-do list.

Slow travel allows me to take the time to wander through cobbled streets, finding hidden gems and cute coffee shops.

Slow travel allows me to live like a local and entirely emerges rather than being a tourist. You not only learn about the culture of a new country but also learn more about yourself and what you love.

Slow travel is energy saving. We’ve got time to relax, time to watch the world go by whilst waiting for your freshly brewed coffee.

Slow travel helps me avoid crowds of tourists. We can visit the places on your list but choosing to go earlier in the day or mid-week means avoiding the queues.

Travelling slow allows me to make new connections. Tip for you: make friends with the local baristas, they know all the city secrets.

Slow travel saves me time. If you’re constantly on the move, you waste a lot of time transferring from one place to another. Spending time at airports or on trains, buses, and accommodation check-ins and checkouts can be draining.

Slow travel means all of that time can be spent living in the moment and learning something new.

Let your body recharge, avoid travel fatigue and just be…
