Startup & Small Business Tips

What If You Could Create Your Ideal Small Business? What Would That Look Like?

My Mastermind Group is conducting this exercise and it is incredibly empowering and inspiring

I’ve mentioned in a few recent articles that I’ve created a Mastermind Group (MM) of coaches. We are all in different stages of our coaching business from startup to semi-retired. We are all different kinds of coaches.

I created this group because it feels like an excellent time in the world situation to review, rethink, reset, redo, clarify our life and work goals.

It truly is a new day, a new world. Many of us need to pivot with the times.

Where to start?

Well, what if you could create your ideal business? What would that look like for you?

Yes, your ideal business.

Wow. Doesn’t that sound empowering and inspiring?

It is.

This exercise and concept is different from creating a perfect business. It is an exercise in creating our ideal business.

This exercise is wiping the slate clean.

This exercise is hitting the reset button.

This exercise is having a totally open mind to the possibilities.

This exercise is asking yourself, if I could really create my ideal business, what would that look like?

The kicker for our MM is that we need to brainstorm it and write it out so clearly that we can easily communicate it to the rest of the MM group. In a paragraph, or a page, in a 3–5 minute talk, an elevator pitch.

But, of course, it is really so we can clearly communicate it to our ideal client.

This is what I love to do and this is who I love to serve. Are we a fit?

Simple, huh? And powerful. But, just like writing, it requires getting the ideas down, then editing, editing, editing. Fine tuning, fine tuning, fine tuning. Is this clear? Are the words right? Is the concept easy to follow and understand?

The exercise results so far

Each member of our MM has started this process. Some of us are frustrated working through those detailed words, clarifying an ideal client when we want to work with lots of people. Yet, each MM meeting, we are all expressing how we feel inspired, energized, excited, eager, uplifted. We are finding clarity.

We are having fun.

Personally, I am really enjoying this exercise. I am semi-retired, but can’t seem to let go of coaching! I love the coaching tools, stories, and experiences because I love learning about them and using them in my own life. I am ready to pivot and manifest my ideal business, my ideal semi-retired business. The business that fits my life, that energizes me, inspires me, and helps me learn and grow.

Are you taking advantage of the pandemic to review, reset, reframe, clarify, pivot your small business?

To allow yourself the empowering exercise of thinking about manifesting your ideal business?

To do so, we must get really clear on what we want to manifest.

Remember, the steps to manifesting the life and business we want to create are: clear vision, set the intention, focus, eliminate, decide, take action, get support, repeat the cycle.

Create a clear vision

To start, we need to define it and get really clear about it before we can create it, attract it, manifest it.

You can create lists or write paragraphs or cut out pictures or create a vision board or just think about what your ideal business would look. Use these categories to get you started.

Who do you serve?

Who is your ideal client? Why do you love working with them? What is it about them that energizes you, empowers you, inspires you? What is it about them that makes you feel good? valued? How do you serve them? Why are you a good fit for them? What is their problem that you solve? How would you describe them so that you and they can each see each other clearly? That you spot each other immediately?

What services & products do you provide?

What is the ideal product or service you really want to give others? How does this solve their problem? How does it make them feel? What words describe its “packaging”? Is it authentic, beautiful, practical, inspiring, informational, educational, money making, calming, relaxing, fun, playful, what? What makes you unique? What is the value you give them?

What does your environment look like?

What does your ideal environment look like? Where do you work? At home? Do you own or rent a premise? What country, city, suburb would you really like to live in? Or would it be an environment in the country, beach, forest, mountains? What does your space look like? Are you interacting with others online, in person?

Who makes up your community, your tribe?

Do you have employees? Coworkers? A virtual assistant? Work alone? Collaborators? What groups do you network with and in? Do you network with others in person or online? Who do you “hang out” with? Do you have a Mastermind, coach, mentor, or a support group? How often are you connecting with them? How do you want to receive and feel supported? Who do you give support to?

How is your time utilized?

What does your ideal day, your ideal week look like? What does your ideal schedule look like? How busy are you? How full is your day or week? What hours of the day do you work? How often do you take time off? And do what? What does a typical day look like? How flexible is your work schedule?

How much money do you need or want to make?

What is your ideal income? This is going to help you determine your pricing strategy, how you bundle your services and products.

Write out your clear vision

This is where we write out that one paragraph, one page, elevator pitch, 2–3 minute speech of what our ideal business and client look like. This is our mission, our goal, our vision.

Set an intention to have it

Once your vision is clear, we set an intention to manifest it.

Now we decide to do it, to create it, to manifest it. We give ourselves permission to have it, to deserve it. We are not going to try to do it, we are going to decide to do it. We don’t need to know how yet. Yes, it’s scary. But, we want it, we desire it, and we decide to have it.

We simply say Yes to it.

What do you need to eliminate and say No to?

In order to manifest our ideal business and intention to have it, we will need to make room for it by eliminating other things, other stuff.

These other things are rules, procedures, clients, customers, coworkers, collaborators, people, groups, meetings, organizations, appointments, tasks, projects, drams, activities that no longer serve us or what we intend to manifest.

Often these things are very clear.

Our intuition tells us what, and who, we need to let go of.

We can go slow or fast at eliminating. We trust our intuition, our inner wisdom.

We give ourselves permission to let go of what no longer serves us to make space for our ideal business, to make time for our ideal business, to have the right energy for our ideal business.

We say No to these things that no longer serve us.

We simplify.

We usually feel relieved, excited, happy to let go of these things that are heavy, dragging us down, deplete our energy, are time wasters, annoy us, frustrate us, make us feel used.

Eliminate as much as you can, want, feels right for you.

Set your attention on it. Focus on it.

What we focus on expands. We put our attention on our intention.

I highly recommend we regularly look at and review that one paragraph, one page vision, elevator pitch, 3–5 speech of our ideal business and our ideal client we created above.

Make decisions about it.

This is your intention with legs.

We look at our clear vision and use it as a guide to make decisions. Does this decision fit my vision, my values, my ideal business, my ideal client, my ideal way forward?

We have to make decisions, but we can then alter course if they take us off course. Nothing is permanent. Change is the only constant. So decide. Just decide to decide. And know that you will change things, alter course, pause, speed up, and make corrections along the way. As you practice deciding, it all gets easier. Doesn’t everything get easier with practice? You will notice that the practice creates courage, calm, confidence.

Take action, be in action, take imperfect action

This is decision with legs.

We look at our clear vision and use it as a guide to take action. Does this action fit my vision, my values, my ideal business, my ideal client, my ideal way forward?

Do we need to do it perfectly? No! Embrace imperfect action.

We take conscious, positive, creative action rather than busyness actions. We are deliberate, conscious. We practice taking action. It gets easier. These aren’t based on fear, they are based on your intention, your desire, your inspired decisions. These are inspired actions. Steady. Regular. Habitual. Again, you will notice that the practice of inspired action creates more courage, calm, confidence.

Look for and accept support

Along the way of manifesting our desire and intention, we need support.

We need support when we are afraid, to remind us we are not alone, as an affirmation that we can do it, as accountability to practice staying in action, to teach us to make better decisions, to honor ourselves, and to remind ourselves that we deserve and are worthy of our desire!

Choose to support yourself rather than go it alone. You can support yourself with a coach, a friend, a teacher, a mentor, a classmate, a group, a mastermind group, a network, a class. If one method doesn’t work, switch to another. But, accept, and look for, support.

Continue the cycle of manifesting… It is a practice.

Then, continue the cycle of visualizing, intending, focusing, eliminating, deciding, acting, getting support, repeating the cycle.

Manifesting your ideal business is a choice. And a practice.

Ready to choose this empowering way to live and work?

Just start. Start today. Begin.
