What I truly loved about The Queen’s Gambit is how they portrayed the importance of community in healing.

I’ve heard this concept repeatedly, but the hardest thing was to imagine just how this might look in real life. It’s especially hard when you’ve never really had a community before.

In stories, whether in books or in television (or radio shows! narrative podcasts!) is where we hear fictional (or non-fiction/ adapted) lived experiences that help shape our imagination of how concepts might play out. I find strength in that.

I spent a lot of my childhood and teens focussing on productivity, to craft that perfect university application with the best grades and extracurriculars. I used to shun entertainment as mindless and non-productive, to never realize just how much power storytelling really play in embodying ideas.

Tell me: what stories are empowering to you?

Lucy (The Eggcademic) [she/her] is really making the time to watch, read, absorb these narratives from all over, so if there’s one that particularly speaks to you, drop your recommendations! She’s tracking all of her book and tv watching adventures.
