What Happens When You Turn Out the Lights?

February Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Freestyle”

A rose sits in the dark.

I photographed this rose to challenge my creativity. Rather than use strobe lights, I waited until night to create the image.

I draped my desktop with a black cloth and placed a small mirror slightly off-center, topping it with a rose to create the mirror image.

I turned off the lights in the room and used a small LED flashlight to highlight the rose and to create the negative space around the rose and mirror.

I wasn’t pleased with the initial results, but after some trial and error, I found an image I liked. The difference between the photos was slight, but I liked the one seen here.
