What Happened When He Found Out About Her Infidelity

Shadows Of Mayday #27: Kaitlyn #2: She wished he didn’t find out like this

Start reading here

A week later, they both arrived at the hotel at different times. Kaitlyn knocked softly on the door to the room and waited for it to swing open. He held his arms out to her, and she walked right into his embrace. They shared the first of many kisses. He hugged her close to him, then held her at arm’s length.

“Are you ready for this?” he asked, and Kaitlyn nodded.

“You can still leave and there will be no hard feelings,” he talked again, smiling at her.

Kaitlyn was quiet for a moment and then she shook her head.

“I don’t want to leave. I need passion in my life,” she said.

He scooped her up and carried her to the bed. Their lovemaking was slow and tender, even though their breathing betrayed that they wanted to devour each other. They held back, savoring every moment as they discovered each other’s bodies.

For the first time in years, Kaitlyn felt loved and wanted.

For the first time in years, sex excited her. And, for the first time in years, she didn’t fake her orgasm.

During the first weeks of their affair, Kaitlyn conveniently forgot that she was a married woman. She hid her guilt deep down where it couldn’t haunt her. Whenever that tiny voice in her mind told her she was doing wrong, she went into a discussion with it and justified all her actions.

She had several meetings with the handsome man. Besides being her lover, he truly was her soulmate.

Sometimes they met during daytime. She took time off from work or stayed out longer for lunch.

Other times they met in the evenings. Then she told her husband she had to work late to prepare a case for court. Her husband noticed she was away from home more often than before. He clarified it for himself that the law firm must have taken on more cases than the attorneys could handle.

Kaitlyn became more and more trapped in her situation.

Deeply in love with her soulmate, she realized she still loved her husband. She didn’t want to give up her marriage of twenty years just like that, but she also didn’t want to give up the new and exciting relationship with her lover. Kaitlyn was in a place where she didn’t want to be and she had gotten herself there.

Still in a debate with herself on how to handle this, whether she should tell her husband about her affair or whether to break it off, fate took over.

Her husband walked into the kitchen one evening while she cooked dinner. He had an overnight bag in his hand. She instantly recognized it as the bag she had hidden in her car.

No words could justify the existence of an overnight bag, let alone explaining the condoms and two vibrators in the bag. The zipper of the bag was open and the expression on her husband’s face told her he had already found those items.

He knew.

At that moment, Kaitlyn wanted to kick herself for not talking to her husband earlier. This was not the way he should have found out about her infidelity. She should have told him. She should have confessed.

He didn’t even ask her what it was. Her husband saw the answer in her eyes. He threw the bag on the kitchen table, turned and walked out.

Kaitlyn heard his footsteps go up the stairs and moments later, it came down again. The front door slammed behind him as he left the house. She sat down at the kitchen table, staring at the bag.

Her mind was empty.

It was only when she smelled burnt food that she came into action again.

She turned out the fire under all the pans. The kids would be home soon, and she didn’t know what to tell them. She quickly brought the bag upstairs to avoid questions.

The front door opened while she was still in her bedroom. Her kids barged in, laughing and teasing each other. She forced her voice to sound normal, cheerful even, when she called downstairs that their dad wasn’t at home and they would order pizzas.

The next day, after little sleep that night, she called her husband and was surprised when he answered the phone.

“We need to talk,” he said.

They agreed to meet each other in a restaurant in the city. It seemed best to talk on neutral ground.

During that talk, Kaitlyn told him about her soulmate. She admitted she was in love with the other man, but she also told her husband she still loved him.

She tried to explain her confusion.

She was torn between two worlds, and he needed to understand that she still loved him. At that moment, she knew she wouldn’t walk out of their marriage without giving them a fair chance to blow new life into their relationship.

It broke Kaitlyn’s heart to see the hurt in her husband’s eyes and knowing she had put it there.

“I thought we were happy,” he admitted.

“There’s something missing between us,” Kaitlyn said. “I miss the passion. It’s as if we have lost sight of each other somewhere along the way. I don’t even know if we’re staying together out of love or habit. We don’t long for each other like we used to before. I love you, but I want to stay with you because I feel the love between us. I want to have sex with you because I feel your desire for me.”

Her husband stared at her. It took a while before he spoke.

“But I do love you,” he said.

“I know you do, and I love you too, but something is missing,” Kaitlyn said in a sad voice, “We have drifted apart.”

“Do you want a divorce to be with him?”

“No. No,” Kaitlyn said, shaking her head. “No, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m in love with him, yes. He fills a void, but I don’t just want to throw away what we have.”

“Then what do you want?” her husband asked, despair obvious in his voice.

“I want us to work on repairing our marriage. I want to get the passion back. But we can’t do it ourselves. We need help,” Kaitlyn said.

“Help?”

“Relationship therapy. We need someone to guide us through this,” Kaitlyn explained.

“Okay. We can do therapy. Will you still see him?”

“No.”

That was one of the most difficult things Kaitlyn ever had to do: to contact her soulmate and tell him she was going to fight for her marriage.

However, she wasn’t prepared to let go of him entirely. She still wanted him in her life, but she needed a time-out. She asked him to give her three months. After the three months, she would tell him whether she wanted to continue her relationship with him.

Kaitlyn needed to fight for her marriage.

“I will wait for you,” her soulmate said.
