What happened to “The Man with the Golden Gun”?

‘Death in Paradise’: S3.E7. “The Man with the Golden Gun”…

Richard Signy’s “The Man with the Golden Gun”, from a teleplay penned by Jack Lothian, serves as the third season penultimate episode. The episode, first televised in the British Isles on Tuesday, 25 Feb. 2014, reached a little under eight and a half million viewers at the time of broadcast.

Signy’s “The Man with the Golden Gun”, not to be confused with the James Bond film of the same title, guest stars Jospeh Marcell, Chris Obi, Jimmy Akingbola, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Pippa Bennett-Warner, and Caroline Proust.

Marcell, Obi, Akingbola, Amuka-Bird, Bennett-Warner, and Proust, having joined the series regulars for this third season instalment, respectively portray Alexander Jackson, Joseph Jackson, Terrance Jackson, Anna Jackson, Rosie Curloo, and Emily Benoit.

One would have thought, given how being unpopular on Saint Marie has a tendency to lead to being murdered, certain people would make more of an effort to be sociably likeable. It’s obvious, noting how Alex Jackson was shot to death on his privately owned island, the unpopular land developer didn’t get that particular memo.

D.I. Humphrey Goodman and the team, given no choice in the matter, must sail over to the island so that they can investigate and subsequently solve the latest murder.

It is soon discovered Rosie Curloo, Emily Benoit, and the three Jackson children: Joseph, Terrance, and Anna were the only people on the island when Alexander Jackson was murdered.

Naturally, but way too obvious, the primary suspect is the person that had access to the murder weapon. Curiouser and curiouser, complicating matters for the investigating detectives, their primary suspect is also the only person on the island with a concrete alibi.

Making matters significantly worse for Goodman and his team, with bad weather becoming a significant issue, no one is able to leave the island. Being trapped on an island with a killer is not exactly anyone’s idea of fun. It is what it is. Goodman and the team has no choice put to work through their fears and get to the other side of the investigation in one piece.

Interestingly, not that anyone has asked the question yet, only one of the three Jackson children had a vested interest in seeing dear old dad dead. Only one of them had been set to inherit the business.

That was of course before the father decided to change his will. This information, for what it’s worth, points Goodman in the right direction. Consequently, because of this eventuality, the detective inspector solves the case.
