‘Death in Paradise’: S3.E2. “The Wrong Man”…
Cilla Ware’s “The Wrong Man”, from a teleplay penned by Daisy Coulam, revolves around the murder of Thea Holmes whilst working on the set of a horror film. Holmes, a stand-in for the lead actress, Lexi Cunningham, dies of poisoning. The initial assumption, with Cunningham having originally been scheduled to have been on set, the real target was the leading lady.
Ware’s “The Wrong Man”, first televised in the British Isles on Tuesday, 21 Jan. 2014, saw Michelle Ryan, Rhys Thomas, Hannah Tointon, Phoebe Thomas, Peter Davison, and Peter Bankolé respectively guest starring as Lexi Cunningham, Carl Collins, Susie Jenkins, Thea Holmes, Arnold Finch, and Big Dave.
Holmes, back in the day, had served time in prison for a mugging that had gone horribly wrong. Goodman, in trying to connect the pieces, initially assumes the real target had been Cunningham. It makes sense. Cunningham, the leading lady on the film, had previously been sent hate mail.
Goodman, wasting no time doing his job, starts interrogating persons closest to Holmes. Arnold Finch, the screenwriter on the project, is questioned by Goodman as to his whereabouts and his activates at the time of Holmes’ death.
Finch, as outspoken as one could be, never shied away from expressing his thoughts pertaining to Lexi Cunningham. He really didn’t like her. It was that simple. Finch, searching for poisons, had however been conducting online searches that raised more than a few eyebrows. This fact didn’t escape Goodman’s attention.
The investigation takes an odd turn when one of the suspects suddenly dies. It is assumed the person committed suicide; however, Goodman has none of it. He’s convinced there is something going on that connects both deaths.
Goodman, never one to give up a the first or any hurdle, looks for deeper meanings within the investigation and determines the case is too important to leave unsolved.
The pieces of the puzzle come together in Goodman’s mind, and because of the way the detective inspector expresses his thoughts, the team come to realise an important factor none of them had suspected. Someone had been manipulating them from the start.
