Quickie: What Genres of Music Do People Listen to Most During Sex?
Research reveals the soundtrack of sex

Music is the soundtrack of our lives, and it’s also the soundtrack of our sex lives. The specific songs or artists that sound sexy to someone’s ear is highly individualized, but there are certain genres people go to when they’re in the mood more than others. In a survey of 1,000 people, ZAVA asked what musical genres they are most likely to have on the playlist as they’re doing the deed. The following were the top choices for men:
- 1. R&B or Soul (12.7 percent)
- 2. Jazz or Smooth Jazz (9.6 percent)
- 3. Easy Listening (8.4 percent)
- 4. Rock (5.5 percent)
- 5. Pop (4.1 percent)
- 6. Electronic (3.5 percent)
- 7. Dance or EDM (3.3 percent)
- 8. Blues (3.3 percent)
- 9. Hip-Hop or Rap (2.9 percent)
- 10. Alternative (2.9 percent)
“The connection between music and sex is more than just skin deep.”
For women, their favorite genres during sex were:
- 1. R&B or Soul (16.2 percent)
- 2. Easy Listening (12.1 percent)
- 3. Jazz or Smooth Jazz (9.9 percent)
- 4. Blues (5.3 percent)
- 5. Genre Not on the List (4.3 percent)
- 6. Rock (4.3 percent)
- 7. Indie (4.1 percent)
- 8. Pop (4.1 percent)
- 9. Classical (2.9 percent)
- 10. Electronic (2.7 percent)
No matter what kind of music people choose when they get it on, researchers say it can help enhance the sex act because of the effect the music has on us.
“The connection between music and sex is more than just skin deep,” ZAVA explained in a blog post about the study. “Scientists have linked the same chemical the body produces during sex to the ones stimulated after listening to a favorite song.”
