Summary

The article discusses the power of non-compliance, drawing inspiration from Gandhi's Salt March, as a path to personal freedom and a method for overcoming unjust societal norms.

Abstract

The article "What Gandhi Was Doing to Be Successful and You Are Not: This Is Your Path to Freedom" draws parallels between Gandhi's historic act of defiance against British salt laws and the concept of non-compliance in personal development. It emphasizes that non-compliance, both internally with one's own conditioning and externally against unjust rules, is a crucial step towards liberation and self-determination. The author suggests that by becoming aware of and rejecting automatic habits and unconscious behaviors, individuals can break free from the shackles of their internal 'British Raj' and choose their actions consciously. The article also quotes Dr. Joe Dispenza, highlighting the importance of awareness in changing one's behavior. Non-compliance is presented not merely as an act of rebellion but as a profound journey towards internal and external freedom.

Foreign invaders, England came to India in 1858. It wasn’t by invitation. Fast forward 32 years to 1930 and the most heroic of all non-compliance episodes played out in history.

The British Raj imposed a mandate that Indians buy salt from the government. Along with prohibiting them from collecting their own.

In an act of symbolic non-compliance, Gandhi commenced the Salt March.

Gandhi marched across India for 3 weeks to the Arabian Sea. On a mudflat, at the sea's edge where evaporated water left a thick layer of sediment. He lifted a handful of salt.

This one defiant act swept a wave of emotion across India. Bring the British Imperialists to their knees. Causing mass demonstrations across India.

Non-compliance is at the basis of all spiritual and personal development work. It has internal and external components. But it starts with yourself.

You need non-compliance

Up to the age of 5 years old, you take on what will be your lot. Meaning what you learn during these formative years will unconsciously play itself out for the rest of your life. As it’s unconscious, you will have no idea that you are doing it.

When you don’t comply with your patterns of internal learned behaviors, your life will take a dramatic turn. As you no longer will you be a slave to your internal ‘British Raj’. You will be free to choose over what you will or will not do.

If you become aware of your automatic habits and you are conscious of your unconscious behaviors, so you cannot go unconscious again, then you are changing.

-Dr Joe Dispenza

What is non-compliance?

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines non-compliance as:

failure or refusal to comply with something (such as a rule or regulation)

On the surface, non-compliance is to go against something. Whether that be a learned behavior that no longer serves you. Or in the case of Gandhi, an unjust mandate.

How to do non-compliance

You can engage in non-compliance in the form of unjust conditioning. This is the type of learning you had picked up from your parents or society from when you were young.

To non-comply, you must beware of what you are not going to go along with. Make a plan of action. Know that when in the midst of the opposing force, either internal or external, your nervous system will fire off. Don’t react. Pause. And follow your path of action.

What the future holds

History has shown the power of non-compliance. This has been started by one person out acting against an unjust rule.

On a much deeper level non-compliance is not rebelling against something. As to go against something is to still hold that thing to be true.

At an absolute level, non-compliance is a stepping stone to freedom. In that, once you are aware of the internal bias or pattern of behavior you can then be free to choose as to whether or not to act.

Non-compliance is not an end in itself. But a practice leading to liberation, both internally and externally.
