Imagine you have to choose between being ‘overweight and earning millions’ or ‘losing weight for your health.’ Rebel Wilson chose health over her career.

A decision her team in Hollywood was not supportive of, and yet after losing 77 or 80 pounds as she is still losing pounds, Rebel Wilson is at the top of her game. Her new movie on Netflix, Senior Year is number one in 60+ countries.

When Rebel Wilson sat down for an exclusive interview with BBC, she said —

“But I knew deep down inside some of the emotional behavior I was doing was not healthy, like I did not need a tub of ice cream every night. That was me, you know, numbing emotions using food which wasn’t the healthiest thing.”

What losing 80 pounds looks like

In the same BBC interview, Rebel says she knew how it feels to be invisible as a woman solely based on her weight. She experienced it all — like when no one opens the door for her, or when others make her feel she has no value.

And she was only being honest, for while many of us who struggled with weight know exactly what she was talking about, a lot would think it was all on her mind.

That we don’t have to look nice to be treated nicely, but that is in an ideal world, sadly that is not how society operates.

But with her 80-pound weight loss transformation, she is surprised by the amount of news coverage that her weight-loss journey had gotten. In one headline, she has been called the ‘next Bond girl.’

She jokingly told the audience about her transformation, which she hopes JK Rowling would still approve of.

She calls 2020 her year of health. In the BBC interview, she jokingly said that she is a ‘little bit of a psychic’ and she did feel that in 2020 she will be working less.

Although she didn’t predict the reason why the world came to a halt in 2020, she embarked on her weight loss journey for the right reasons which is for good health.

But aside from her desire to be healthy, Rebel Wilson also wants to be a mom.

And her visit to a reproductive endocrinologist made her take action when the doctor told her:

“He looked me up and down and said, ‘You’d do much better if you were healthier,’ “ the actress tells PEOPLE of her fertility doctor’s advice.

At first, she found her doctor to be rude, but deep down inside, she knew the first step to being healthy is by losing the excess weight.

But for celebrities like Rebel, people would always have an opinion about her body regardless if she gained or lost weight. And it’s also true for male celebrities like when Will Smith lost 20 pounds.

When people tweeted about her ‘weight jokes’ at the BAFTA, it feels like her critics are telling her to move on with her life, that they had enough of her telling her successful weight loss journey.

Shouldn’t it be the critics that should be told to shut up and let her enjoy her new body?

And besides, we all know that at award ceremonies, the host usually tells jokes, right?

As someone who at one point lost a lot of weight, I feel it is important to feel good about yourself, and that may include some ‘bragging.’

Also, why do we always hear negative comments from people who haven’t been overweight throughout their lives, can we give Rebel some break?

It is no joke to lose 80 pounds, that alone gives her the right to joke about her body, and isn’t she paid to be funny and tell jokes?

Body positivity includes learning how to respect other people’s choices, it was always been ‘our body, our choice,’ and it was never ‘their body, your choice.’

Rebel Wilson said, her new body isn’t the result of the Mayr Method, but by doing what many of us can do to lose weight and that is by walking.

What’s her secret?

There is nothing more than a celebrity weight loss program that can make anyone trying to lose weight curious as to how these celebrities did it.

But not every celebrity weight loss program is safe, like what Kim Kardashian did just to fit in the iconic Marilyn Monroe dress.

We love to speculate how a person can lose that much weight, we are looking for the secret, a formula, or a routine. We need to know how a celebrity like Rebel Wilson lost 80 pounds.

And she isn’t the first one to lose weight by walking.

“My goal was to get healthier and lose the bodyweight I didn’t want” — Rebel Wilson.

Like Adele, Rebel Wilson did it for herself, it wasn’t for a man or Batman or for an acting role, a joke that got her critics losing their minds.

She wanted to be healthy now that she is in her 40s, and more importantly, she wants to become a mom.

Motherhood played a big part in Wilson’s fitness goals.

Wilson also suffers from polycystic ovarian syndrome, a condition that affects fertility and causes weight gain.

It’s not much of a secret, she walked. She walks 6x a week, an hour a day.

“Sometimes the simplest thing like getting out and walking for an hour a day is the kindest thing to your body, and your body will respond to that,” the actress said in a recent Apple Fitness+ episode of Time to Walk on Apple Watch.

But again, while we can all do the walking part, we need to remember that she is a celebrity who can afford to pay a celebrity trainer. Rebel works out with trainer Jono Castano who supervises Wilson’s gym visits. Her workout routine is usually a full-body workout or flipping tires.

In her hit Netflix movie, Senior Year, she plays a woman who was in a coma for 20 years. Some critics say it’s not a funny movie, but I digress from the critics, yes it isn’t Bridesmaids or close to being Fat Amy funny in Pitch Perfect, but the movie had its moments.

It is nice to look back at your high school years.

Rebel recently debunked claims that she was following the Mayr method, a diet based on Dr. Franz Xaver Mayr’s “Mayr Cure,” which was developed about a century ago.

Mayr argued that the foods people eat and the way they eat them are harming their digestive systems. As a result, the goal was to promote health through improving digestion.

“This was NEVER my diet,” Rebel confirmed in an Instagram Story.

“Also, I have NEVER recommended any diet pills or miraculous weight loss pills,” she added. “Do NOT want anyone to be scammed.”

What Is the Mayr Method?

The Mayr method is a century-old diet plan. The Mayr Method is an eating plan developed by Austrian physician Dr. Franz Xaver Mayr in the 1920s. Its focus is on whole foods and holistic health.

The program encourages you to:

1. Chew each bite of food at least 40–60 times

2. Eat your biggest meal early in the day

3. Stop eating as soon as you start to feel full

4. Eat only cooked food after 3 p.m.

5. Avoid drinking water with meals

6. Stop eating after 7 p.m.

Rebel Wilson, everyone knows she is a funny actor. But like many overweight people, many only see her as the ‘fat funny lady in movies,’ when in fact she also happens to be a lawyer.

She came to terms with her bad eating habits. She realized that eating a tub of ice cream isn't doing her body any good.

Losing weight doesn’t necessarily mean you are healthy, or when you are overweight you are unhealthy.

But we should be supportive of anyone who is trying to lose weight, that alone is a great morale booster for that individual.

Celebrities are no different. Except for the fame and money behind closed doors they have to make peace with their body and change their lifestyle if they want to for health reasons.

It is never too late to choose a healthier version of yourself.
