What Do You Want?
Where your attention goes — energy flows…
“Successful people have an inner vision and they live by it.”
This is a line from a book I am reading by Dean Graziosi The Millionaire Success Habits. I have been and continue on a path of a bigger life. And if I want a NEW life, I have to think NEW thoughts. And I’m turning to those who have great success to help me change my thoughts — and change my life.
How about you — are you with me?
If you are reading this, you probably are and looking for some change in an aspect if not several aspects in your life. Since 2020 many of us are — as I shared in my last article: Many Americans Have This in Common.
So how do we get there?
By looking at where you are now. And it starts with you being completely honest with yourself. Once there, what do you want to change? Notice I asked what you do want — and not what you don’t want.
Do you know what you want?
Are you thinking:
I don’t want to stay in this same job with this same income.
I don’t want to feel stuck in my relationship.
I don’t want to keep feeling tired and crappy.
I don’t want to fight with my family
Notice how what you don’t want can flow out so easily. Did you find that happening for you? We seem to focus on what we don’t want and where our thoughts flow — energy goes…
I remember listening to Dee Wallace, another mentor of mine, who works with the metaphysical. She shared that in her experience most people focus on what they don’t want — and then create more of what they don’t want.
The Universe is always listening and looks to help you achieve what you desire. When we have thoughts like “I don’t want to be sick anymore.” The focus is on illness and coming from fear and the energy goes there. Instead put your focus on what you do want — perfect wellness and bring in the energy of love.
That’s the metaphysical take on this…
For Dean, who is super successful and business minded, focusing on what you don’t want keeps you stuck in the problem instead of finding the solution. So “I don’t want to be sick anymore.” will not help you find what will make you well.
That’s the physical take on this…
Both Dee and Dean would agree that what you don’t want keeps you stuck in your story instead of finding the ways to improve your health. Better nutrition, getting more rest and sleep, moving your body, finding stress management tools, etc. Metaphysical mindset meets physical action — that’s the secret.
Different messengers — the same message — in slightly different ways…
So with this in mind, again let me ask you: What do you want? Are you thinking, “Hmmm — that’s a good question.” or “Gosh, let me think about that.” If so, you are not alone…
…Most of us focus on what we don’t want yet we struggle with what we do want. This makes sense to me — think about it. We say things like “I don’t want all these bills piling up.” And when we change it to “I want to make more money.” that’s when the actual work begins — which can be scary or overwhelming — HOW will I do that? It’s not just thoughts it’s now action.
It’s easy to focus on what we don’t want as then we don’t have to step outside of our comfort zone to create what we do want:
Find a new job that’s more fulfilling that pays more.
Get out of that relationship that is going nowhere.
Change how we eat and start to take care of ourselves.
It’s hard, right? But isn’t how you are living also hard? Time to choose your hard. Some people just want to complain — they want something more, but fear change and don’t want to do the work. Time to embrace change — and make changes.
Are you thinking:
I need more time in my day.
I wish there were two of me.
Most people feel adding more time in their day is the answer to help them get more out of life. In reality, the successful people do not have a minute more than you do. What they do have is a clear vision of what they want.
When you do not know what you want, you spend time being busy instead of productive. You say “Yes” to all the distractions that take up your time. When you do this, you ultimately end up saying “No’” to the habits and routines that will get you ahead.
Don’t like habits and routines? Maybe you feel you are not disciplined enough? Well, we all have habits and routines — and they either help or hinder us.
With a clear vision, you no longer fill your time with what isn’t serving your intentions, goals or dreams. The actions you take have purpose and you spend your day achieving what you desire.
How do you get started? Find your ‘WHY’:
Where are you right now in your life — be honest. At times, we pretend that all is okay — and deep down we know it’s not.
Go deep:
Are you looking to reinvent yourself?
Tired of feeling alone — even though you have a partner/spouse?
No longer want to be told what to do by a boss who doesn’t appreciate you?
If so, you are not alone. And now more than ever people are looking to step into something more.
“When you focus on the outcome and not the obstacle, your life will never be the same.” ~Dean Graziosi
When you have a clear vision of where you want to go, you then take action. When you aren’t specific enough, you don’t know where to begin. And that’s when emails, social media, streaming services, phone calls distract you leaving you feeling stressed, overwhelmed and disorganized.
Dean shared a great exercise that he learned from Dan Sullivan (as I have said before, we are all messengers):
Imagine it’s one year from today and when looking back over the past year, you realize it was the best year of your life.
What would have happened:
How much money are you making? How much money do you have saved away for your family’s security? Who are you taking care of financially?
Where do you work every day? Do you have a home office or are you driving to a new location?
Are you taking your existing company to the next level? Are you starting your own company? Are you evolving through the ranks at your job? Do you have a better relationship with your boss? Better yet, are you the boss?
How does your spouse or partner look at you in the morning or after a long day?
How do your relationships with your kids or family members look now?
What does your life look like when it’s a year in the future — and you look back and view it as your best year ever?
Dean continues, “When you do this exercise, don’t say “Well, I could be in shape but I’m too busy to work out” or “I could start my own company but I have to stick with this job to pay the rent.” When you know where you want to go, you start having a filter that will allow you to say no to certain friends, obligations, opportunities, and emails. You will know deep down that those things are not contributing to your vision. Once you know where you want to go, you can start taking action steps toward the best year of your life.”
“Successful people have this inner vision and they live by it.”
