POEM
What Do You Unlock for Me?
This is the key I don’t want to lose.
I don’t remember where I found you You always appear when I’m not looking
I recognize your shape and texture When I hold you in my hand, you belong there
Do you unlock the places I have been too scared to open Do I still have secrets left to share
Do you unlock my future or my past mistakes I think I found the door to which you belong
My hand trembles as I fit you in precisely I turn you slowly with patterned pauses
As I gently push inside, I am met with warmth and light My vision is taken but left with a caress around my eyes
I am embraced and held closer than I knew I needed My breathing slows as my body releases
I bid goodbye to nagging worries on my exhale My lungs fill with hope expanding, and my spirit renewed
My sight is returning as the lights dim I reach for the door to find my way back
I gently slip the key’s chain around my neck It safely dangles close to my heart
The key pulses in rhythm with each beat on cue If ever I lose you, I don’t need sight to find you
You alone open all doors in my path Your immeasurable imprint left within me
I will reach for you in every step I take My deep-rooted Key of Faith
