Successful business starts here

If you’re an aspiring entrepreneur, or just someone with a passion for selling, this post will help you decide on your first business.

Let’s get into it.

The do’s

When deciding on your first business, it’s important to keep in mind, of:

  • How skilful you are
  • The current state of the market
  • And, most importantly, what interests you

What I mean by ‘skilful’, is, well – what are your skills? Are you a good problem solver? Or, maybe you think decision making is where you come in. Or maybe analytics is your expertise. Whatever skill you’re the best at, there’s a market for it. Don’t let anybody tell you there isn’t.

Of course, if the market’s on it’s last legs, it’s a good thing to start planning when the funeral will be. But, seriously, dead markets are dead markets. Don’t waste your time on them.

So many people nowadays will tell you ‘don’t follow your passion’. And I’m pretty sure that’s the most useless piece of advice ever. Ever. As humans, we enjoy activities, and we also dislike activities. It’s a part of our primal life. It’s apart of our purpose. When you enjoy something, you’re going to feel 10x more motivated and actually enjoy your work. Which results in FAR more money than the slave-like entrepreneur who wastes hours of his day just staring at a computer screen. It’s what lead to me to being a writer, where I actually enjoy the work I do. And I doesn’t matter whether it’s politics or fiction, because I still enjoy it.

The don’t’s

And now we get to the part where most entrepreneurs slip up.

When deciding on what business to start, it’s helpful to avoid the thought of how much money you can make. Sure, in some cases it can be useful as a sense of direction. But in other cases, it can also be a burden. Since you’ll end up thinking more about the money you can make, and less about the quality you can provide.

When starting a business, you should avoid what the 99.9% are doing. And what are they doing exactly?

… they’re all going for the same business models.

When you’re starting a business, you should get creative with things. Be unique. Be the odd one out. Because it’s always the unique businesses that grow and become the next big thing. And if you don’t believe me, just look at social media for example. Influencers come and go all the time, but every so often, there’s always one that just blows up. Out of nowhere.
