Opinions

  • Nini Mappo suggests that personal chaos can disqualify one from winning the Nobel Peace Prize, as seen with President Trump's mouth and morals potentially hindering his nomination.
  • Kae Smith expresses a preference for deep, infrequent interactions with loved ones over constant social media engagement, reminiscing about the days of letter writing and postcards.
  • R. Scott conveys the intense challenges of living in subzero temperatures and how such an experience contributed significantly to his personal development.
  • Shea Hulse criticizes the societal expectation that women should prioritize the household over their own well-being and advocates for a shift towards self-care.
  • Kathryn Staublin, as a teacher of writing, ponders the authenticity of new writers and the courage it takes to write reflectively in a world that often shies away from shadows and vulnerability.
  • Charlotte Zobeir Ali values careful editing and peer review, as indicated by her mutual proofreading agreement with Karen to catch spelling mistakes post-publication.

Nini Mappo is an ‘award-winning storyteller at World Pulse.’ World Pulse is also on Medium.

I wanted to know what on earth Trump had done to deserve being nominated.

Nini’s article explains how the Peace committee works and compares President Obama’s award and Trump’s nomination. A worthwhile read and professionally written.

The message from the Peace committee seems to be that you can’t make peace out there while creating a trail of chaos in your personal sphere, and expect to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

It’s perfectly normal for some people to not enjoy social media. Kae Smith shares her thoughts on how she enjoys her life with her preferred friends.

I kind of crave the old days of letter writing and postcards, only seeing loved ones on special occasions — where you can tell them all about what you’ve been doing and enjoy a real, honest-to-god conversation.

R. Scott shares the wisdom he found in a most inhospitable place.

It was 40 degrees below zero when I arrived, and then it got cold. The wind and ice storms made the cold even harsher. Being in subzero weather with 100 mph winds blowing ice sideways is something I never want to experience again.

Some genuine words of wisdom from Shea Hulse and useful for all to read. She has an interesting perspective and one I have often wondered about.

There is not enough emphasis on women taking care of themselves.

There really isn’t. At least not in my world. Now that I have a daughter of my own and a son, I don’t want to set the precedent for her I’ve seen so many women follow.

Kathryn Staublin writes an insightful piece on writing.

And as a teacher of writing, I wonder. How many mirrors have been carefully crafted in the new generation of writers? How many reflections have been molded from the images of the world outside of us all? And how can we see through that shield, when there will always be a strong reluctance to share the shadows that hide us in this overly lit world?

Publication of the Week

Charlotte Zobeir Ali pens The Woscars, her choices from all the stories she reads on Medium. She also writes spectacular haikus and shares valuable writing experiences.

We both hate spelling mistakes, especially ones we find after we’ve published! So Charlotte and I have promised to let each other know about any spelling mistakes we missed when we read the other’s work.

Let’s get out there and write!
