We Will Always Find A Way With A Sunrise A Day
My most memorable sunrise experience
The past week I hadn’t been able to see the sunrise because the city had been consistently covered in a thick white cloud and flurries of snow.
But yesterday was the first day I was able to see it thanks to a clear sky and the clocks going back, and today was the same too.
It’s like this prompt manifested clear skies for me so thank you Dr. Preeti Singh!
Sunrises hold a special kind of magic because there is something so pure about being one of the first people awake whilst the rest of the world is still sleeping.
Sunrises are profound. They offer a chance to start again and take on the day with a fresh perspective and renewed energy.
I have seen so many different sunrises in my lifetime and under very different circumstances.
When I lived in London, I used to catch the sunrise on my commute to work.
And when traveling, I used to make an effort to wake up early to relish in the sunrise in different parts of the world; to experience dawn in new and foreign places.
Seeking out sunrises and sunsets has always been a favorite pastime of mine because what we see manifesting in front of our eyes is real and raw.
With all the filters and inauthenticity surrounding us in the world, it is always so rewarding to turn back to nature to show us what is true.
It’s hard to choose, but one of my most memorable sunrise experiences was during my time living in New Zealand.
I spent a few months living in a hostel in Mount Maunganui when Covid was at its peak, so the only job available to me was kiwifruit packing. On top of that, the only shifts they could offer were night shifts. So my shift started at 7 pm and ended at 5 am.
It sounds pretty brutal and at times it felt it!
After each shift, a bunch of us would grab some blankets; make hot drinks, and head over to the beach to watch the sunrise.
Where I lived was a 2-minute walk to the beach and the Mount, which takes roughly 35 minutes to walk all the way to the top.
Depending on how knackered we were we would usually walk up to the top of the Mount. On the days we felt tired we would just set up camp on the beach.
There were even a couple of occasions where we would end up falling asleep on the beach after watching the sunrise and would wake up in a daze.
These are such fond memories because it was magical enough living right by the beach and the Mount. Still, the experience was made even more thrilling by chasing the sun, from the start of the day, till the light few rays of light illuminating the sky began to disappear.
It was a reminder of how lucky I was to be able to wake up every day and be alive in this beautiful world.
And it was also a reminder that everyday is a new day, a new time period to start again, try again and continue with what we have begun.
Time is on our side if we allow it to be.
Thank you, Dr. Preeti Singh for this amazing prompt.
