NEW FEATURE REQUEST
We Need Gamification Features for the Readers!
A happy reader is a clapping reader

We, the writers, are lucky.
Not only do we get paid for doing what we love, but we also get beautiful badges like the ones above.
If you’re a top writer like me¹ or J.J. Pryor, you get bored¹ with the first two.
Here’s what I heard regarding the third. It’s a rumor; none of my writer friends was able to confirm. It isn’t sent by e-mail but is hand-delivered by Ev Williams.
Can you imagine the joy?
I wish I could tell you more, but you’ll have to ask someone highly intelligent like Sean Kernan instead. He got 65,000+ claps for the Five Signs of a Highly Intelligent Person²!!! (Congrats, Sean!)
But what about the readers?
Where are the badges for the readers?
If badges make writers happy, wouldn’t it be the same with readers?
And you know what they say, “a happy reader is a clapping reader.” (That was the saying for us, the writers.)
(The saying for Ev and Medium is, “a happy reader is a reader who automatically renews the membership at the end of the subscription period.”)
Don’t we all want to have happier readers hanging around longer, reading, clapping, and commenting on our stories?
Yes, we do!
(On a side note, would it be manipulation?)
Badges ideas for the readers
Feel free to expand this list in the comments.
So far, I got:
- CLAPPING badge: Congratulations! You clapped on 10, 50, 100, 500, … stories. Thank you for supporting our writers; they love it!
- STREAK badge: Congratulations! You’ve been reading for 10, 50, 100, … days in a row. Come back tomorrow for more relaxing, riveting, and surprising articles!
- DISCOVERY badge: Congratulations! You clapped on the first article ever written by this writer:
- TIME TRAVELER badge: Congratulations! You clapped on an article written more than a year ago.
- COMMENTER badge: Congratulations! You commented on this article!
Conclusion
If we like them as writers, we’ll love them as readers; we need gamification features for the readers.
I’m looking forward to my Top Reader badge!
Top Reader in Love! That would be something.
What about you? What kind of Top Reader badge would you like?
For more new feature requests, check out this one:
¹ I’m so not bored! It was only a convoluted way of saying, “please clap for this article; I’m dying to get the badges!”
² Whether someone found a way to clap more than 50 times, or Sean got more than 1,000 clappers on the story!!!
