We fell for the guys who were raised by our mothers
Not realizing that they too grew up without fathers.

We fell for the guys Who were raised by our mothers Not realizing That they too grew up without fathers
We fell for the ones Who understood who we were Not thinking about The scars they carried were on us too
We held onto the words Of grander dreams and better living Of present parenthood and always forever Sipping that bitter liquor Drinking those false promises Smoking the healthy herb Eating each other´s words
We were young, we didn´t know
That we ought to learn to lean on ourselves first Before holding onto another
That we need to know who we are first Before finding out the ways of another
That we have to take care of ourselves first Before bringing into life, another
That we ought to find out how far we could go Before pushing each other
That we need to build ourselves up Before climbing on others
That we have to love ourselves fully Before surrendering to another
We fell for the guys With broad shoulders and tall statures Thinking that They were like no other
We fell for the guys With long feet and firm chests Knowing that They´d never leave
We brought life into this world And our mothers wept And our lives hardened Washing soiled napkins Complaining of abandoned days Crying in closed spaces Trying to be cool
We had grown, we knew better
That no one will ever tell you who you are Find out for yourself
That nothing will change on its own Make the change yourself
That all we give comes from within Fill yourself with love
That everyone does what they want Put yourself first
That tears and pain are part of us Learn to deal with them
That who we are will fade Leave your legacy
We fell for the guys Now we want those men Because we´re now women Who aren´t those gals
