Watching the Ducks

A haiku on nature

Photo by Jenny Bess on Unsplash

Watching the ducks I Leap in the open meadow Grounding my insides.

This morning I went on a nature walk with my tween-aged son. Walking by the lake just after sunrise, ripples on the water’s surface, ducks frolicking ahead, I suddenly began to skip and leap into the grass.

Delighted and joyful, I felt my childlike spirit leaping while my insides settled and grounded me into the rest of my day.

As we walked towards the car my son said “you should write a poem titled watching the ducks,” and so here we are!

Nature moves me always; sometimes physically and always emotionally.

Nature is self-care for me, grounding me as it lifts me. Whether I am running, walking, photographing, or observing, I am one with nature; engaging with its vastness, feeling interconnected with something bigger than myself.

How does nature affect you? Tell us below!

In response to Being Known’s Monthly Writing Prompt: self-care.
