Washington to Ohio — Travel Diary Day 4

Thursday, June 16, 2022

Disclaimer — I wrote about our travels in June 2022 as we drove to Ohio from the state of Washington in the old Winnebago Sightseer RV. As I read through it, I thought it was a great documentation of the ups and downs, trials and successes of daily traveling in an RV full-time. I hope you enjoy it.

Thursday, 6/16/22

Got up this morning and the windows were all frosted again. We were able to leave by 7 am like planned. That’s one good thing. I drove the car and lead the way to the U-haul place north of us. It was almost a two-hour drive. I don’t know why I thought it was only an hour.

We left the broken tow dolly right where it was.

Rich called me while I was driving and said, “Hey, did you see that moose?” I was like, “NO. I was driving and looking at the road.” Darn, I missed it. He said he saw a huge moose along the side of the road.

We got the tow dolly rented and the car loaded. Rich says it is pulling a lot better than the other one did. I hope we make it to Sheridan, Wyoming today like planned. Let’s hope it is a better day.

12:00 pm — just hit Billings, Montana and we are hungry for lunch. We didn’t eat any breakfast. Just coffee. Stopped for gas at a Flying J. Price is $5.02 here and he put in a total of $124.00.

Rich got Subway for lunch. Holy crap it was over $30 for two meals. We have to stop doing that. But it did taste good.

This part of Montana from Billings to Sheridan, Wyoming is miles and miles of green rolling hills and pastures. It is green grass everywhere and beautiful. But no trees hardly at all.

Seriously, I do not see a single tree anywhere! No animals, no houses, no nothing. But lots of green grass. The windows are so full of bugs. Why are there no trees?

Here is a possible title for an article I should write, “The Mistakes We Made and the Lessons We Learned on our First Crosscountry RV Trip.”

Living in an RV full-time and driving around the country is probably the dream of more people than we even realize and here we are doing it.

Retiring early, living in an RV, and having the freedom to travel where we want, and when we want. I love it. But they have no idea of all the problems you can have too.

2:00 pm — Finally hit Wyoming on I-90. We are making good time today. So far no problems.

(You sure can see the bug splatters on the windshield in the photo above.)

3:00 pm — The road is red, then gray. Oh wait, it is red again. I can’t wait to get to the campground. It’s a KOA. I hope it is nice. KOA’s cost more, but they are nice.

6:00 pm — We met several nice couples at the campground here. Forest’s back is still hurt. He seems to be having muscle spasms and doesn’t want to go for walks.

It was a nice, sunny day here. I love sitting outside and relaxing at a campground. I hope tomorrow is another good day.

I hope you are enjoying the Daily Diary of this long cross country trip in the RV from Washington State back home to Ohio. You can find Day 1, 2, and 3 with the following links. Stay tuned for Day 5.

(As the trip went on I wrote less each day.)
