Abstract

te new ideas is to ask your readers directly! Send out a survey or poll and ask them what topics they would like you to write about. This is a great way to ensure that you’re writing content that your audience actually wants to read. I once wrote a list of topics and asked my readers what they wanted to read about.

Use keywords to generate titles: When you’re run dry with ideas, use keywords to help you get started. Think about the topics your readers are interested in. You can create hundreds of titles from just of 2 or 3 words.

A set of titles can lead you into an entire blog. As you see in the example below, there are 700 potential topics you can write about just from 2–3 words. I expect 90% this to be useless. But you are most likely to find few topics to write about.

I generated 700 titles just using — IDEA, NEXT, BLOG. This will give you several posts to write about and help keep your readers engaged. The series can be on anything you want to write a lot about.

For example, I wanted to write about my trip to Iceland in the middle of winter. It was too big to fit into one blog. Want Awesome Ideas For Your Next Post?

20+ practical tips/ideas to help you write your next article. I use them, works very well!

Have trouble coming up with ideas for your next post? Are you feeling uninspired and stuck? Don’t worry. You’re not alone. Many writers have difficulty coming up with new content ideas. We will share some valuable tips to help you generate new ideas for your next post. By following these tips, you’ll be able to create fresh content that your readers will love!

Alert: I use all of these ideas. They work very well for me. But I’m sure many other authors have written about these, so don’t expect earth-shattering new ideas. Success in writing is about boring consistency, not about ‘new & cool.’

Let’s jump right in! You can skim through, but I think you might get better value reading some of the ideas slowly if you are really struggling. I count it as success if you go out with just one more idea!

Happy reading!

Read a lot: This is the most effective way to improve your writing skills. The more you read, the better you’ll be at writing. When you read, you’ll get ideas for your next posts. You’ll also be able to see how other writers are structuring their content. You will also see the perspectives of other writers and how they approach different topics. This might help you think differently about the same topic.

If you take only one tip, this is the one.

YouTube: There are thousands of videos that can help you generate ideas. Try looking for blogging tips, lists of hot topics, and resources that focus on your niche. There is enough content on ‘how to’ out there to generate ideas for years. Many famous bloggers also have a Youtube channel with helpful tips.

Read the other blogs on the topic: When you’re stuck for ideas, one of the best things you can do is read other blogs on ‘generating ideas for your next blog.’ Not only will this give you new ideas, but it will also help you to see what other people are doing and how they’re formatting their content. Medium is full of these kinds of articles.

Write down your ideas: You’ll inevitably get new ideas when you read a lot. Your memory is not as strong as you think it is. Write down your thoughts/ideas as soon as you have them. That way, you won’t forget them and you can work on them later.

You can keep a notebook specifically for blog post ideas or save them in a document on your computer. I use my mobile/iPad — the notes app. It is cloud, and I have instant access to my ideas across devices.

Review your ideas/notes: Constantly review the list of ideas/thoughts you’ve written down. Add somthing each time. You don’t have to write an entire blog each time. Just add one more word or a line when you have the idea/thought.

You’ll soon realize that many of your ‘one-line’ ideas are slightly more mature when you constantly update them. When you make a habit of recording your thoughts, many of your notes are inevitably mature enough to be full blogs.

Sometimes I add only a word or two on a topic, but the process of writing it down ensures that I don’t miss a thought. I constantly find a different angle to a topic that I originally wanted to write about.

Look at other blogs in your niche: When you’re feeling stuck, take a look at other blogs in your niche. What are they writing about? What topics are popular? You can use this information to generate new ideas for your own blog.

Talk to people: One of the best ways to develop new ideas is to talk to people. Ask your friends, family, and co-workers what they would like to read about on your blog. You may be surprised by the topics they suggest!

I wrote this post based on a conversation with a friend. She asked me — How do I find what my strengths are? I though, what a great question this need to be a blog! I wrote this, it didn’t help her fully. I need to keep working on it. It ranks pretty high on Google though!

Ask your readers: One of the best ways to generate new ideas is to ask your readers directly!

If not, keep using slightly different keywords and repeat the process.

Read your old posts: One way to get inspired is to read your old blog posts. What topics were popular? What did your readers enjoy reading about? You can use this information to come up with new ideas for future blog posts. Do you have a different angle or perspective on the topic?

I wrote this post about getting to the top 8% of the writers on Medium. When I reread it, it made me think about understanding my stats better. This lead me to write my biggest hit ever!

Many of my posts are essentially developing the thoughts I had started with an earlier post.

You keep evolving as a writer and as a person. Your thoughts are not static. Use it to your advantage.

Use lists: Lists are a great way to generate ideas for your blog. They’re easy to read and people love them! Try coming up with a list of topics related to your niche and see how many you can come up with.

For example, if you write about travel, you could come up with a list of 10 places to visit in your city, a list of the best restaurants in town, or a list of things to do on a weekend.

If you write about blogging, you could come up with a list of tips for starting a blog, how to improve your blog traffic, or how to make money blogging.

If you write about money, you could come up with a list of ways to save money, how to make extra money, or how to get out of debt.

Regardless of the topic — you can always write a list! Google a few iterations of ‘10 ways to’ and see the results. You’ll be amazed!

Use LinkedIn: I have curated my feed on LinkedIn, so it is an excellent resource for me to find content on the topics I’m keen on. I follow many people writing about personal finance, leadership, agility, tech etc. I literally have topics raining on my LinkedIn feed — a lot more than I can handle!!

You can do the same by following relevant groups and people in your industry.

I save interesting posts on LinkedIn. Each one of them is an inspiration for my next potential blog. When I run out of ideas from other sources, LinkedIn is ready with about 50 topics!

Plan a series: If you’re having trouble coming up with ideas for a single blog post, try planning a series instead. This will give you several posts to write about and help keep your readers engaged. The series can be on anything you want to write a lot about.

For example, I wanted to write about my trip to Iceland in the middle of winter. It was too big to fit into one blog. Solution — I have a 5 part series!

Watch out for writing challenges: They can be a great way to develop ideas. Many publications run writing challenges, and there are also a few websites that focus exclusively on writing challenges. Become more observant and curious: Every person has stories. Look at the person at the supermarket cash counter. They have a story. Imagine what their day would look like. Talk to the person at the gym, ask how their day is going. What about the waitress who takes your order? She has a story. There are exciting stories everywhere.

You just have to be more observant and curious. Many of my posts about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is from personal conversations.

What causes do you care about: My entire set of posts on Climate Change were inspired by need to express.

Notifications: Your mobile pops out a bunch of notifications. You can turn some of them into personal stories. I wrote about my weight loss and walking from my Renpho/Fitbit notifications. The more observant you become, the more stories you see.

Look at your photo album: Almost every photo you have is a story. There is a reason you took those shots. I constantly keep looking at my photos — some exciting stories pop out! My entire travel collection was inspired by my photo albums. I also use a lot of personal photos in these blogs.

By following these tips, you should be able to generate new and exciting ideas for your blog. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things. The more you write, the easier it will become to come up with content that your readers will love!
