Abstract

The article delves into the complex emotional journey of Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel series "WandaVision," where her love for Vision and the pain of her loss compel her to bring him back to life within a simulated reality. This act, while rooted in love, goes against Vision's last wish and ultimately causes more pain and suffering to those around her, including Vision himself. The article suggests that this tragic situation could be a pivotal point for Wanda's character development, potentially leading to her redemption as she confronts the consequences of her actions and the pain she has caused.

Opinions

  • The author believes that Vision's last words to Wanda, stating she could never hurt him, were ultimately proven wrong by the events in "WandaVision."
  • It is expressed that Wanda's grief has led her to do the very thing Vision thought impossible: cause harm to those she loves, including Vision.
  • The article anticipates that the remaining episodes of "WandaVision" will likely intensify the emotional pain and conflict, with the potential for Wanda's character arc to reach a turning point.
  • There is an expectation that the MCU writers will leverage this tragic narrative to remind Wanda of her promise to Vision, which could serve as a catalyst for her redemption.
  • The author seems to appreciate the depth and quality of the "WandaVision" series, contrasting it with the hope that future Marvel series may not be as compelling, allowing time for other interests like writing about "Doctor Who."

WandaVision — Wanda Will Prove Vision Wrong

You Hurt The Ones You Love The Most

You could never hurt me. I just feel you — Vision

Those were the last words Vision said. He implored his love, Wanda, to destroy the Mind Stone. Killing him was a small price to stop Thanos. Or it would have been, had it worked.

She broke the stone and it with it her heart. Vision died. Never mind that Thanos reversed time, restored the stone, and killed Vision all over again.

Wanda sacrificed her husband to save the universe. It didn’t work. She was left with those words.

“You could never hurt me.”

The words were beautiful, poignant, and ultimately, incorrect.

Perhaps in that first moment, he was able to die peacefully. Content. He was in the hands of the woman he loved and trusted. She would never hurt him.

But in her grief, that’s exactly what was to come.

Watch the scene again, if you have enough feels left.

This brings us to WandaVision. There will be spoilers.

In Episode 5 we learn that Wanda went against Vision’s wishes. She resurrected him. However, when the sitcom reality was peeled back in Episode 4 it became clear he’s not fully restored.

It seems clear that he can only exist in her simulated reality.

In Wanda’s grief and pain, she is doing exactly what Vision thought impossible. She is causing everyone around her harm and pain. The anger and rage, and yes the pain, in Vision’s voice when he confronted her were proof enough.

“You hurt me, Wanda,” is what he was saying. In effect, “I just feel you. And it is hurting me.”

With three episodes to go, you can be sure the pain will worsen.

It’s a tragic opportunity that I hope the MCU writers take advantage of. Remind her of that moment. Of her Vision’s words. Perhaps it will be the turning point for her redemption. When she decides she doesn’t want to hurt anyone anymore, least of all him.

Or as Pietro might say to Vision (and indeed, what he should have said during his appearance at the end of Episode 5,) “Bet you didn’t see that coming.”

Scott really wants to write about Doctor Who but the WanadaVision series is so good, there just isn’t time. Maybe he’ll get luck and The Falcon and The Winter Solider won’t be as compelling.
