Visiting the Most Beautiful Waterfalls in Europe

It’s great to be back

This trip was the one we’d been waiting for all year. Since that I went to Zürich in 2019, I had to go back. Today was that day.

Since January we’ve been brainstorming on where to go during the May break, at first we wanted to visit the Scottish Highlands, but that got a little expensive, and we don’t have a passport so that wasn’t going to work anyway.

That’s when Switzerland appeared.

Unlike Scotland, Switzerland is easily accessible within a day from the Netherlands and it doesn’t require you to book reservations on trains.

Didn’t I mention that? We went by train.

Using an Interrail/Eurail travel pass makes it incredibly easy and cheap to travel around Europe at a fixed rate.

We paid €226 = $238, for 7 days of unlimited train traveling through Europe.

Starting The Day With Coffee And Stress

There couldn’t be a train trip without coffee, and stress. Especially when I’m involved. The train took off at 7.37 AM and we had only just woken up.

Luckily we could grab some coffee at the station.

But as soon as the train arrived the running and stressing started to find our seats in the right compartment. It’s a big train and it didn’t end up at the place it should have ended up (of course it didn’t).

So we had to run.

Eventually, we found our seats and spent the following 2.5 hours on that train to Frankfurt am Main. There we changed trains and took off to the far south in Germany.

That train was so slow. It’s supposed to be an Intercity Train, and technically, yes, it was an intercity train. But it did it so slow. It took us 2.15 hours to get to the northern part of Switzerland in Schaffhausen.

We almost fell asleep.

But once we arrived in Schaffhausen, it was time to visit the most beautiful waterfalls in Europe: Neuhausen am Rheinfall.

They are breathtaking, admit it.

The sun was shining and the weather was phenomenal, but just after we hopped on the train in the direction of Zürich, the rain started to drop on our skins and it shifted.

Arriving in Glattbrug, where our hotel is, the sun was back and we thought it was a good time to swim in Lake Zürich. Nonetheless, the moment we walked out of our hotel to find a tram, the rain was falling again, and thunderstruck.

During our tram ride to Zürich, we enjoyed the beautiful view and rain.

Zürich is even beautiful when the weather is terrible and in just 3 days, we’ll return to see more of the city. Today was just one big travel day.

The French Parts of Switzerland

Switzerland is a weird country. Four languages are spoken.

German is the north to center, French in the west and southwest, Italian in the south, and then there’s this small group of people in the Alpine area that speaks the Romansh language.

We’re visiting Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen and Monreux tomorrow.

The nice thing about Montreux, that’s in the Geneva and Lausanne area, is that it has a subtropical climate. That’s really nice if you want to swim or walk around in your shorts and t-shirts like me.

For now, that has been my day. Tomorrow, I hope the weather will be better and allows us to swim in the beautiful lake of Geneva.
