Visit to an Old Cemetery in Winter

6 Word Photo Story Challenge

Near old bones, old roses grow.

I found these antique roses at the headstone of a woman in an old cemetery (established 1890) on the high plains of Texas in February. A place where the wind always blows.

She died in 1909 at the age of 42. I wonder what she was like, what kind of life did she have those years, did she have a husband and children? Was she a rose on the prairie? She must have been loved. It was the only rose bush I found that day.

I was at the cemetery with my mother visiting my uncle’s new grave. He was a tough ol’ cowboy. He died at the beginning of the Covid surge, not from Covid. His death was a collateral Covid death. He slipped on the porch hitting his head. The hospital was inundated with Covid patients, they did not attend to his head injury for two days. He suffered a brain bleed when he fell. They were told of his head injury when he was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He died just as they began tests. An un-neccessary death.

Tooth Truth Roopa Vikesh tagged me for this 6 word photo story challenge. I am challenging myself to post six photo stories. It’s fun. This is number 3.

The original challenge is from Mary Chang Story Writer. Thank you for a fun idea and great way to use personal photos!

I tag Susan Randolph and Terry Trueman to participate in this challenge.
