How to Virtual Travel and Cure the Social Distancing Blues
Diary Day 3 -Our Journey on Carnival Cruise Line- Debarking the ship to Port Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
It was the third day of our cruise, November 11, 2019, all was quiet as the ship quietly rocked over the vibrating calming waters. We awoke early that morning to be prepared to begin our first day back on the dry lands to Cabo San Lucas.
Aboard the boat, you could feel the excited energy that was bouncing off all the walls of the ships as the ship host announced via the television all the approaching details regarding the approaching smaller boats that were scheduled to carry the passengers over to Cabo San Lucas.
Outside our cabin door, you could hear the rustling of people and their bags passing by as that chatted and laugh with much anticipation. They all seem to be beyond excited to get off the ship as soon as possible and begin their excursions and/or shopping along the beautiful and sparkling beach front of Cabo San Lucas.
Long Beach seem to be a distance memory since all had been sailing for two days aboard the ship. The ship had become the new home for all, the young and the not so young.
Kitchen duties at home had now been replaced with dinning rooms and buffet stations. House cleaning no longer a burden but now was in the hands of the ship’s staff who smiled and greeted all passengers by their first names as they smile with much delight on the sighting of each passenger.
The ship had afforded all two days of non stop dining, eating, entertainment, drinking, games, parades, dancing, shows, workshops and pampering. The air was always pierced with all enjoying the large array of events projected at their fingertips.
With all this excitement and pleasure, all seem to be excited about embarking on a new venture. We along with the other passengers were equally looking anxiously forward to checking out the newness of our next venture on land.
Even with ship’s life, like home life, each passenger made great effort as each strive to find their groove of normalcy aboard the ship. We, alike, begun our days aboard the ship with the same new daily ritual.
From the moment, our eyes opened, every moment was calculated not to miss out on any events and/or opportunities. Everyday began with a warm greeting of each other, into the bathroom one of us went, then the other, checked out the day’s schedule, and the next moment exited the cabin after a prayer.
We hurriedly ran to the gym with the hopes that we’d get a treadmill straightaway. Got their and the gym was a ghost town. We were so excited as we hurriedly jump on the treadmill and walked the allotted time. Hopped off the treadmill and hurriedly exited to the dinning room for breakfast.
As we exited the elevator, and walked toward the dinning room, the doors were closed and no one was in line. Apparently since we were docking, the dining room was closed for breakfast and lunch. A little detail we overlooked! With feelings of disappointment, we jumped back on the elevator and quickly off we went to the buffet deck for some breakfast.
Got off the elevator and entered the deck and their were tons and tons of people in lines at all the food stations. The lines moved very quickly. It looked like all the 2500 passengers were getting breakfast at the same time. We hurriedly ran from food station to food station looking for the must appetizing food for breakfast in comparison to the dinning room food.
Like spoiled children, we had grown accustomed to the dinning room food and staff and didn’t want to settle but had no choice. We decided to adapt and overcome. We quickly implemented plan b, eating a light breakfast, just enough to satisfy our palette to sustain our journey off the ship.
After breakfast, we gathered all our belongs we needed for our journey in Cabo San Lucas. All ready, got everything, breakfast done, then there comes a loud announcement that there was a problem with the smaller boats approaching the ship due to some weather conditions. The boats could not approached the back of the ship as plan and had to go to the front of the ship for the safety of the passengers boarding.
From a ginormous ship to a tiny small boat was quite a mental and physical transition for all as I watched each passenger transfer from the big to the tiny. Everyone took it all in stride as we all squeezed into these little boats. They packed us like sardines into these little boats before sailing toward the island.
As we sailed, the rain decided to pay us a little introductory visit for what was about to beset us all. From a distance we could see these three beautiful and scenic mountains in the distance along with many boats that were docked and sailing the seas.
Everyone’s iphones flashed away capturing moments that would not repeat itself. As I flashed I guarded my iphone not to fall overboard for this would have been a downer like when I lost my camera the first day of arrival in China. Purchased another but never captured the pictures like I would have with my own camera. I learned my lessons well.
Minutes have passed and all was waiting with great anticipation. The excitement grew by the moments up until the moment we got off the boat in Cabo San Lucas. The natives greeted us with smiles and assistance. No sooner than we exited the boat, it returned back to the ship to bring another load of passengers.
After exiting the boat, going through security which was a breeze, we got direction regarding where to begin. Security check was to ensure no one was bringing fruits and any other forbidden items to Cabo San Lucas.
The excitement was rising within us along with every discovery step to see Cabo San Lucas over the next six hours. We were emphatically informed of the return sailing time and it was demanded that all allowed enough time to return to the ship via the boats otherwise the would depart without you. We set our watches and off we went.
Our feet were happy feet as we strolled along the beachfront entering immediately into shops but chose to exit and shop later. We left to explore the entire beachfront and shopping was now on the back-burner.
Tourists were everywhere and from everywhere but all were cordial, friendly and polite. Certainly we all had come to the right place because as far as the eyes could see shops, restaurants, malls, boots, local merchants and and bars covered the entire lands along with the many town-homes and private homes.
During our immediate surprise, we spotted people walking around with large skeletons of fish in their hands. These fish skeletons were dangling down as each of them walk toward the beach. We could not imagine what this was all about. I thought perhaps the locals bought the skeletons as a delicacy of some sort. Suddenly one man with the largest fish skeleton of all walked toward the beach as he made a sound toward a dolphin who refused to take his bait. We left onto discover the sights.
We walked from the beginning of the beach to the ending point of the beach, about three miles of walking. All was very scenic, beautiful flowers, sand beaches, a few old dilapidated historical buildings, museums, aquariums, tons of private boats and much much more. This island was a haven for fishermen. Many of the fishermen displayed the cleaning of their catch of the day. To my surprise, one fisherman caught a tuna fish that was at least four feet long and weighted about two hundred pounds. Everyone stood around looking with amazement.
As we walked and walked it appeared the beachfront had no end. It appeared the more we walk, the further the end of the beach moved away further. My legs got tired and more tired as I calculated every step toward the end of the beach front.
Walking for the last two days on the ship had worn out my legs more than I had realized up until this point. I was determined to make it too the end hook or crook, I was going to do this and I did. The long tired journey was worth every step. Arrival was like heaven and just as beautiful!
As the rain drizzled and stopped, going was much more exciting than returning for I had wobbly legs and the rain didn’t help. This was like going on a beautiful trip and on the return home you can’t wait to get there. Well this was how I felt about our return to the shopping area. Once back in the shopping areas, my tiredness subsided.
While time was on our side, but our stomachs were starting to have a conversation with us but we chose not to eat locally for two reasons. One reason, so much food to be had on the ship and second reason, didn’t want to get sick eating the wrong thing. We even took our own water.
The beach, the beachfront, the private and commercial boats, the town homes, private homes, the locals and nature were all still delightful to experience. We clicked away to capture every all the external atmospheric beauty of Cabo San Lucas for many eyes, our’s included. e
Shopping in Cabo San Lucas comes with it’s own type of fun and uniqueness as we haggled with the many local merchants for I realized the items are marked up for tourists. They all sold the same products so it was easy to bargain from one to another. Even had my husband haggling with the local merchants.
All the stores were side by side, you could easily walk from one the other. Each had it’s own beauty just like the surrounding atmosphere. Below are some photos of the moment in time that we captured of our journey along the beachfront of Cabo San Lucas.
Before we embarked on our first port, we checked out the many excursions that were readily available to us but decided to handle our first venture on our own and it was very rewarding in doing so. Our walking excursion is not for the faint at heart who cannot do a lot of walking but an excursion package would afford the same opportunity. Excursions could be prearranged online, on board and/or or locally.
The excursions ranged from Luxury Day Sail and Snorkel, Aqua Trio Adventure, Beach Front Resort, Camel & Mexican Outback Adventure, Off Road UTV Expedition, ATV Outback Adventure, ATV Desert Expedition, Horseback Adventure and much much more. Also, there were many local taxis within walk distance to take tourists around the city.
The stores had everything from trinkets, magnets, clothes, tee shirts, furniture, jewelry (costume and real), glassware, etc. You name it they had it. Also, they accepted the dollar so you didn’t have to exchange your money. I think our dollar was four times their peso.
As we walked the beachfront in Cabo, below photos captured the splendid beauty of Cabo San Lucas, the beautiful parks, the cleanliness of the beachfront and it’s scenic component. Private homes, town-homes and boats aligned the beachfront. The many many stores offered much to all shoppers from the high end shoppers to the fixed budget shoppers. Along were restaurants for all pallets, expensive to affordable. Which were located on the opposite side of the beach. There was a walking path that tourist would stride from one end of the beach to the other end easily.

In conclusion, hope you enjoyed Cabo San Lucas through our eyes in all its splendor. Cabo San Lucas reminds visitors of one large vacation getaway haven. This was a journey to beheld and shared with all unfamiliar. After shopping we returned to the ship for a full night of entertainment after dinner.
Back on the ship, we dropped our bags in the room and made a mad dash to the dining room. A bit tired, hungry and excited, we hurriedly ordered dinner because the main-stage shows were starting soon after. After dinner, we attended “Getaway Island”, “John Dicrosta — South by Southeast”, “Flirty and Dirty”, and Happy Cole, a comedian.
I groggily stayed away during all the events. Walking for miles around Cabo San Lucas, I was exhausted and determined to enjoy the ship’s entertainment, didn’t want to miss a thing. After all the entertainment, we bolted out of the room like it was on fire. I was super-tired and went straight to bed as my husband return to enjoy sightings all around. He loved to watch the ocean and the ship sailing.
As usual, the staff left another little friend on our bed. So cute. Before retiring, I checked the next day’s schedule to prepare for our second port departure into Mazatlan and off to dreamland I went.
