Vampire Of Time
Poetry inspired by Julia E Hubbel
Amidst the creatures of the night There lurks an unprecedented blight Not longing for the flesh, not tempted by blood Instead, it robs off you the essence of time It lurks in dark places, it seeks out your traces Follows you viciously, keeping ten paces Before it leaps at you, hissing and grasping your soul Deceiving your mind and then taking control
It longs to waste time, both yours and mine It draws from our patience until our brain’s demise It keeps us bound, with curses and pleas It never shuts up; relentlessly Keeps it talking and ranting and whining, demanding Proclaiming, accusing, defaming and slandering Its barrage of words, seemingly never-ending
You just wish to get shot, “Oh Lord, please take my life” But the heavens forsake you; your plea was denied And you feel a sharp sting, your head starts tingling That’s your brain cells resigning; they too start giving in To such meaningless small-talk; this cry for attention Without help from the gods; no divine intervention And you search for an exit, from this painful monotony Even hell seems like heaven; maybe peace through lobotomy?
Eons are lost, you succumb, numb, supine But it keeps sucking on, unabating The vampire of time
This lengthy poem was inspired by Julia E Hubbel, who coined this wonderful term in this article:
