Use “Sloth” Words in Your Titles for 57% Higher CTR

Simple words that get huge click-through rates

I’m not joking when I say that “sloth” words in your titles can boost your click-through rates (CTR) by up to 57% or higher.

When I use these simple sloth words, the articles on my websites get a crazy number of clicks on Google. Just by adding one of these words to my blog post titles, I can even “steal” search volume from articles ranked higher than me in the search results.

Here are three of the best sloth words I know and how to use them.

What Are Sloth Words?

Sloth words are words or short phrases that create a psychological state of desire in the reader. They do this by appealing to the values and interests associated with slothfulness.

Sloth words tap into our natural temptation to take the path of least resistance.

By using these words, we can create content that is more likely to be read and even shared by those who value ease and convenience. However, it’s important to use sloth words sparingly.

If overused, they can make your content seem insincere or manipulative.

When used effectively, however, sloth words can be a powerful tool for increasing engagement and reach.

The Sloth of Ease & Convenience

One of the biggest and most powerful sloth words to add to your titles is “Easy.”

Easy is a word that seems small, but it has a powerful pull. Just think about all of the times you’ve seen “easy” in a title and been intrigued.

Whether it’s an easy recipe, an easy way to make money, or an easy way to get in shape, we are constantly looking for ways to make our lives easier. And that’s where the sloth of ease comes in.

This sloth is all about reducing internal friction and resistance.

The Sloth of Speed

Another sloth word is “fast.”

Adding the word “fast” or “quick” can help to increase your click-through rate because it speaks to a common problem that people face— they don’t want to wait.

People are always looking for speedy solutions and, if you can provide that, you’re more likely to get clicks. Time is a major excuse people give for not doing something, so by addressing time in your title, you’re more likely to get someone engaged with your article.

Keep in mind, however, that your title should still be reflective of the actual content in your article.

You don’t want your titles to mislead or “bait-and-switch” potential readers.

Build trust with honesty and transparency to keep people coming back for more.

Example titles:

  • The 3-Minute Guide To Launching Your Website
  • How To Lose a Dress Size in 30 Days or Less
  • How to Cook Polish Perogies Fast with Only 3 Ingredients

The Sloth of Money

Let’s be real: Most people love free stuff.

When it comes to online content, titles with the word “free” tend to perform significantly better than those without it.

If you’re looking to increase your click-through rate, simply adding the word “free” to your article titles can be an effective strategy.

Of course, your article still needs to be relevant and interesting. But including “free” in the title is a great way to grab attention and get more people to click through.

Why Sloth Words Work

Sloth words like “free,” “easy,” and “fast” are so effective in titles because they remove excuses, break down mental barriers, and tease readers with what they want: quick and simple solutions to their problems.

By using these words, you tap into the reader’s natural desire for hassle-free life.

And let’s be honest: who doesn’t want that? Free items are especially enticing because they save us both time and money. And in today’s fast-paced world, we all know that time is money.

So when we see a title like “5 Easy Ways to Get Free Traffic to Your Website,” we almost can’t help but click it.

We’re hoping that the article will give us the missing piece to our puzzle.

How To Use Sloth Words in Your Titles

You can compound the click-through rate increase by blending sloth words in the same title.

There’s no need to go overboard, here.

Just see if you can naturally enhance a title with fast, easy, or free words (or their synonyms). Experiment to see what looks and sounds the best.

For example, here is the same title with a different combination of sloth words.

Title with combined sloth words:

You don’t have to use sloth words in every single one of your titles. But when it makes sense, give it a try.
