Hallo A Shayens Abran here, I’m the owner of Be Open! As now Be Open has editors that will help handle submissions, our editors will be reviewing each of your story to meet our requirements.
So, We will explain our standard story formatting more detail than the previous version (in our Be Open Submission Guidelines) to make it clearer for our writers about how and what to do when submitting stories to Be Open.
And if you're new here and interested to contribute as our writer, you may need to read who we are, what we publish and what we have in our Submission Guidelines!
The detailed General Requirements (Story Formatting)
Here are the general requirements for submitting your stories:
1. Titles and Subtitles. Your story must have a title and a sub-title. (Kicker is optional).
2. Featured Image . You must have a featured image in any piece you submit to Be Open. Images that are impactful and help set the scene for your story. Place the featured image under title and subtitle. Here are the preferred size and positioning of featured image:
Also add alt text to make sure the picture and your stories can be indexed by search engines!

Our editor will ask you to change/enlarge the freatured image if smaller than the samples above!
3. Image Rights and Attribution. On a similar note, you must have the rights to publish any images that you use in your stories and pieces. We require attribution of images. Simple write in the image caption, example : Image by Robert Kerk from Unsplash Or if you use yout own photo, write: Image by Author You can source free images from Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay or freeimages.com
4. Medium Paywall Content Preferred. (Optional) But our suggestion is make the content you submit be for Medium Members Only (behind the paywall). This ensures you can earn from your work and also your piece has a chance to be distributed by Medium.
5. Edited and Revised Content. Though we tolerate if you’re not a non native English, we need as minimum as grammar error and typos. Use something like Grammarly to help you if grammar and spelling aren’t your best skills.
6. Word Limit. We accept stories; poem, fiction and nonfiction/articles in the range: ±100 to ±1500 words. If you have pieces more then 1500, we may ask you to divide it to 2 posts. For very short piece like Haiku, you can add any description to tell what your piece about to meet the minimum 100 words limit. Please consider that short writing under 300 words tend to have very low earning!
7. Additional Images. In addition of featuted image, you can add 1 or two other picture that related to the story in the body of your writing/poetry. If you paywall your stories, adding pictures will add reading time = more earning! Any sizes smaller than the prefereed featured image above is great for images in the body of the story.
8. Submission Limit. Each writer can submit 2 stories a day (from previously 1 story). If more than that, the remaining pieces will be published in the next days. ****UPDATE: you can submit more than 2 stories each day! :-)
9. Choose Appropriate Tags. Having the right tags helps Medium sort and curate your content. Our primary tags are Poetry, Relationships, Life, Fiction, Hobby, Be Open. Another tags is in your choice.
10. We accept Published and Unpublished Drafts. For already published stories, we accept only published on your Medium profile or from outside Medium platform. Medium restrict posting the same story in multiple Medium publications.
11. (Special Requirement!) All Be Open writers are expected to feature/shout our/recommend at least 1 story in each story submitted to Be Open publication! How to do it? * We will usually publish your story within 1–3 day (after you make a little changes if there is any needing correction)
