How to improve your sleep?

One day I woke up in a great mood, full of energy and with a bright mind without any difficult thoughts. I felt free and unstoppable. I was happy! Everything was possible. I easily did a lot of different things in the morning, was very productive, and even after that still had a lot of energy to go for the rest of the day.

You might be thinking how I did it…

The answer is simple I had a good sleep the previous night. It fully changed the way I went through the next day.

What would you do with more energy?

Imagine waking up every morning with increased energy, a clean mind, and without any tiredness. Imagine being happy, free, and unstoppable.

How would that change the way you approach your day?

Would you finally be able to exercise regularly?

Would it improve your performance at work?

As you might heard we spend about a third of our lives in bed, that’s why sleep quality is very important. This means that sleep is one of the things that has the biggest impact on our quality of life. With a good night’s sleep, a lot of daily problems just disappear. However, this happens only if you do something to improve your sleeping.

Otherwise, you will continue feeling groggy, tired, and not having enough energy during the day. You will be drinking a lot of coffee but it will not help. It will just give you short energy spikes and that is it.

Also, not enough sleep is one of the common reasons for chronic fatigue. Did you know that?

So, do you want to improve your sleep?

Honestly speaking I am not an expert in it. My sleep is not ideal either. I am sure that we have some similar problems with sleeping. However, my sleep is much better than several years ago. Because I do several things to improve it.

I will be happy to share with you my experience of improving my sleep. Hopefully, you will find something helpful for you.

My approach to improve sleep

· 1 hour before sleep, 1 hour after wake up rule. I found through experience that the hour before going to bed and the hour after waking up are crucial for sleep. The quality of sleep can be significantly improved if you do these two hours of your day right.

Here are several rules that I use for these hours:

No phones or other devices are used during these hours.

No difficult thoughts, finding solutions to problems, and overthinking during this period of time.

Going to bed before midnight, ideally before 11 pm. Waking up at the same time every day.

· Doing sports. It is a great thing to improve your sleep! Regular exercising helps you to reduce your stress levels and overthinking of daily problems, get energy from physical activity, relax, and improve your mood. All these have a positive impact on your sleep. Also, it causes some physical tiredness in your body. And it is positive for sleeping as well.

However, please keep in mind doing sports and exercising is a very individual thing and strongly depends on your particular circumstances.

· Meditation. It helps me a lot with better sleep. When you meditate your focus of attention moves away from your thoughts and stress you might have. It helps you to relax and develop mindfulness and self-awareness. It will have an even stronger positive effect on the quality of your sleep if you do it during the mentioned two hours of the day (1 hour before sleep and 1 hour after waking up).

I usually meditate before going to bed. It helps me to let go of all the worries and thoughts which overload my mind during the day.

That is what I found helpful for improving my sleep.

Final thought

Fortunate or not, we spend about a third of our lives in bed. And what is even more important the quality of this time in bed dramatically influences the rest of our lives. It seems that it might be a good idea to invest some time in improving our sleep.

Where to begin?

Things which I use to improve my sleep:

· 1 hour before sleep, 1 hour after wake up rule

· Doing sports

· Meditation

Hope it helps.
