LEADERSHIP
Unlock Your Leadership Skills After Lockdown
Leaders are at the forefront of the new world
Martin Luther King Jr. said:
“We are not makers of history. We are made by history.”
Dr. King was right, in part. Yes, we are made by history, but we can also make history. We hold the key to unlock the future.
Tomorrow is in our hands.
The articles below discuss three elements for the leaders of tomorrow:
- Vision
- New Age, and
- Transformation
Visionary Leadership
Visionary leaders learn how to articulate the movie in their minds-eye. An inspired vision is crucial for leaders to realize their dream.
“I have a dream” — Martin Luther King Jr.
This article explores the impact of a leader's vision.
New Age Leadership
Steve Jobs proposed “the reality distortion field”, a phrase he admittedly stole from Star Trek. One writer noted:
“Mr. Jobs was neither a hardware engineer nor a software programmer, nor did he think of himself as a manager. He considered himself a technology leader, choosing the best people possible, encouraging and prodding them, and making the final call on product design”
— New York Times, 2011
This article is about leadership lessons past for the next generation.
Transformation Leadership
The importance of a leader's mindset and influence on others in a disruptive environment cannot be underestimated.
That said, when leaders share a vision, define a mission, and nurture values in an organization, the expectation is that change will occur.
This is rarely the case.
Followers may share the same goals as their leaders, but they have their own goals too. The tole of a leader is to connect both.
Final Thoughts
I’m not a religious person, but a few years ago I was at a loss to conclude my thesis on Leadership … I was seeking a powerful quote.
So I slept on it.
The day before my submission was due, I stumbled across these words:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” — Romans 12:2
“Science investigates; religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge, which is power; religion gives man wisdom, which is control. Science deals mainly with facts; religion deals mainly with values. The two are not rivals.”
— Martin Luther King Jr.
