Undeserving: An Etheree Poem Sequence

Thanks to Sky Collection’s prompt: Syllabic Poetry: Meet the Etheree

You. Yes, you. I see you. Reaching upward in spite of the pain. Telling yourself that you matter so much more than what’s told to you by that narcissist. What does he know? Only delusions. His words won’t matter to you in the end.

Rise. Rise up. Carry on and know that he is a weak, weak soul. His words become bitter vitriol he can’t control, but that’s no excuse to hurt you. He’ll know better when you rise up and leave him swallowing the shadows of you.

Heal. Heal you. Reach to light and bend yourself toward the hope that lifts the skies up day and night. He’ll no sooner be worthy of your love than the skies deserve to fall into seas and be consumed; into those raging waters let him sink.

This was a new form for me. Writing a sequence helped me to get a better feel for the flow of this particular form. In later works, I hope to incorporate some stronger imagery, although I did end up with a couple of fun rhymes in this sequence. Thanks to Melissa Coffey, guest prompt writer for Sky Collection, for bringing this form to my attention.

This Etheree sequence is inspired by:

And by a book I just completed editing for a dear friend Raquel Plank: Love Letters to a Narcissist

And the Etheree prompt:
