Aphelion
A wandering etheree for the wonderous earth
Storm stretches. Her outmost fingers cling to the southeast, crawling. Rolling wind stirs me up. Hurricanes cluster feed on archaic cycles of Mother’s gravity — slowly pulling away. Fortnight past solstice brings aphelion.
Reach. You think growth slows for a moment of orbital ellipse. Imperfect circles still bring me outside for the rain. She asks me where my star shines bright. Summer phlox and echinacea hold perennial memory to grow wild.
Pull and push — ebb and flow. Drenched, I stand tranced muddying my hands to clear the weeded path making room for all of it and I fall endlessly in love and hopelessly infatuated with the other side of the spinning world.

What is an etheree? Simply put, it is a poetry form that adds syllables to each consecutive line up to 10 lines/10 syllables. Read this post and poetry prompt from the prolific and talented Melissa Coffey. I encourage you all to participate. Not yet a writer for Sky Collection?
