Summary

Twitter allows consensual adult content but is banning it in Germany due to the lack of age-verification systems, while Senator Ted Cruz's stance on pornography is contrasted with the platform's policies and the broader discussion on porn's impact on society and relationships.

Abstract

Twitter's policy permits pornographic content as long as it is marked as sensitive and consensually produced, which has contributed to the platform's reputation as a source for free adult content. However, due to German regulations demanding age verification for access to such material, Twitter has begun to restrict adult content for users in Germany. This move highlights the tension between free expression and the protection of minors online. The article also references the historical incident involving Senator Ted Cruz, whose Twitter account liked a pornographic tweet, and his publicly expressed views against non-procreative sexual activities, which stand in stark contrast to Twitter's more permissive approach. The discussion extends to the potential for Twitter to evolve into a platform similar to OnlyFans with its Super Follow feature, and the broader implications of pornography on personal relationships, including the concept of porn addiction and the importance of open communication between partners.

Opinions

  • The author suggests there is nothing inherently wrong with pornography as long as it is consensual and actors are compensated.
  • Twitter's policy is seen as allowing a space for adult content, provided it adheres to their sensitive media guidelines.
  • German regulators believe that children should not easily access adult content, leading to Twitter's ban on such content in Germany.
  • Ted Cruz's opposition to non-procreative sexual activities, including masturbation and sex toys, is highlighted, which contrasts with his stance on gun rights.
  • The article implies that adult websites like Pornhub should be regulated due to their significant value and visitor numbers, as well as to address issues with non-consensual content.
  • There is a speculative view that Twitter could become more like OnlyFans with its Super Follow feature, potentially allowing users to pay for adult content.
  • Some studies indicate that watching pornography in secret can negatively impact relationships, advocating for open communication over acting out sexual desires secretly.
  • The author explicitly states that adults have the right to express their sexuality through pornography, challenging Ted Cruz's belief that there is no right to genital stimulation for non-medical, non-procreative purposes outside of a relationship.

Twitter Bans Porn in Germany, but Ted Cruz Can Still Like a Pornographic Tweet

If you wonder why there is too much porn on Twitter, it is allowed.

Do you still remember when Senator Ted Cruz's Twitter account liked a pornographic tweet? Well, he denied it and blamed it on one of his staff?

As I was reading this article on Guardian, Senator Ted Cruz, when he was Texas's solicitor general, had this to say about masturbation. By the way, he is also opposed to sex toys, but not guns.

There is no substantive due process right to stimulate one’s genitals for non-medical purposes unrelated to procreation or outside of an interpersonal relationship. — Sen. Ted Cruz

There is nothing inherently wrong with porn, as long as it is consensual and actors are compensated.

But that isn't always the case on Twitter; one can watch porn shared by accounts that don't belong to the people on the video.

Why does Twitter have porn?

Twitter has a non-consensual nudity policy but has this to say about porn.

Pornography and other forms of consensually produced adult content are allowed on Twitter, provided that this media is marked as sensitive.

It is why Twitter, aside from becoming the social platform for NFT related activities, cryptocurrencies, and blockchain, is also for anyone who wants to watch free porn. And also, for anyone who cares about the news and Donald Trump.

But in Germany, Twitter is starting to ban adult content, as regulators believe that children should not find adult content easily.

German regulators have ruled that online pornography should not be visible to children and must be hidden behind age-verification systems. Lacking such a feature, Twitter has responded by effectively vanishing dozens of profiles for millions of people.

Germany is not against porn but is against companies that don't comply with age verification. Although come to think about it, these adult sites only ask anyone if they are over18, a simple tick on the box, and anyone can view content specifically made for adults, even if you are not yet 18.

Companies like Pornhub are not your mom and pop companies producing adult content. These websites are worth hundreds of millions of dollars. They are one of the most visited websites on the Internet, and they should be regulated like any other business, especially since there are a lot of bad actors on these adult websites.

Twitter as Only Fans?

Some say it can happen with Twitter's super follow feature, where followers can pay their favorite content creators on Twitter, and we know that there are a lot of adult performers who are both on OnlyFans and Twitter. So, who knows, it is a matter of time before Twitter lets you pay for your porn?

Porn anyone?

Like Twitter, I'm not against porn, but some studies show that it can harm your relationships, especially if it is done in secrecy. Sex therapists explain in this article from Huffington Post say that people in a relationship should work it out and not act it out.

Hiding porn ― or keeping any sexual proclivity a secret ― ultimately shortchanges both people in the relationship, said Chris Kingman, a New York City therapist who specializes in porn addiction.

The reality is that there is porn addiction, but to many adults, watching porn is a safe way to express their sexuality.

Ted Cruz thinks people don’t have a right to “stimulate their genitals.” I was his college roommate. This would be a new belief of his.

Unlike Ted Cruz, I say it is OK to stimulate your genitals, your body, your choice.
