Are Filipino Women Watching More Porn on Pornhub, or Are They Content Creators?

Unfortunately, the 2021 Pornhub report is inconclusive.

Pornhub in 2021.

If YouTube, Spotify, or Facebook has a rundown of how the year went by, Pornhub has its annual recap of how people consumed porn in 2021.

Anyone interested in statistics or trends would find the report fascinating. However, one thing that didn't escape my probing eyes is that in the report, it says there are more Filipino women on the website and that Filipinos stay longer, we spend 11 minutes and 31 seconds with every visit, and I can already hear my fellow Filipino men saying, "because we last longer."

The most searched term in the Philippines continues to be ‘pinay’, while several other terms appeared in the top 10 for the first time including ‘korean’ (+9), ‘asian’ (+23) and ‘anime’ (+12). 2021’s trending searches include a +460% increase for ‘threesome pinay’, +345% for ‘hentai anime’ and +316% for ‘Rule 34’. Compared to the rest off the world, visitors from the Philippines are +286% more likely to view the Hentai category, +134% more into Romantic videos and +111% more into Cartoon. — Pornhub

Filipino Women on Pornhub

In a very Catholic country like the Philippines, these statistics will surely get the ire of the Catholic Church hierarchy.

I have no issue with women watching porn or any adult for that matter. I believe that everyone should be allowed to explore their sexuality privately.

But there could be a darker reason why Filipino women are on Pornhub. If we look at the most searched terms in 2021, in fifth place is "Pinay," loosely translated as Filipino woman in our native language.

I can understand the word's popularity among heterosexual Filipino males, but if it is a term searched widely on the website across the board, why is there a lot of interest in Filipino women?

Philippines top global source of child pornography — Unicef

This is a report from Unicef as shared by Rappler an online news organization based in the Philippines as far back in 2017.

Poverty is so prevalent that there have been reports that some Filipino families are selling child porn online. When asked, the parents of these children would say that they have no other way to live but sell images and videos of their children, usually to foreigners who hide behind the anonymity of messaging apps and the dark web.

While I would not categorically say that Pornhub is a place where predators and victims meet, Pornhub is the YouTube of Porn, and on the platform, there were crimes against our children that took the site forever to clean up.

The New York Times did an investigation about it. You can read it here.

Final words.

While you may find the Pornhub 2021 Year in Review both exciting and amusing.

Locked inside their website is a lot of data that they aren't sharing, are they able to police itself from bad actors or predators, if Facebook can't police itself, how much more a website that offers adult entertainment, where there are videos that are not supposed to be made public?

Have they looked at why so much traffic is coming from the Philippines? And will they share to authorities if they find anything alarming, or like Facebook, they will try to hide everything from regulators?

I have no solid proof that the reason why there is a lot of traffic coming from the Philippines is that there could be illegal transactions going on, or it could also be because a lot of Filipino women are engaging on the website as adult content creators, again it isn't a moral issue but a social issue.

Is poverty driving more Filipinos to adult websites and are becoming sex workers? Because if it does, I hope Pornhub takes its responsibility more seriously in ensuring that all activities on their website don't involve our children and are limited to consenting adults.
