Food is a huge part of our lives. That makes it a great topic to write about, whether you just started writing or are simply looking for something new to talk about on your blog. Let’s have a look at three prompts that will, hopefully, inspire you to pen down some great stories.

Writing prompt number 1

‘The meal that changed my life’

Write about a meal that had a huge impact on your life, either good or bad. It could be about this terrible dinner date after which you decided never to go on a blind date again. Or the meal at your friend’s house on the evening you announced you were moving abroad.

I’m sure we all have a breakfast, lunch, or dinner in mind that, for some reason, was very special.

Writing prompt number 2

‘A culinary adventure gone wrong’

This would be the perfect topic for a funny story! But maybe you have another style in mind, and I’m sure it would be just as great.

Write something about the time you stepped out of your culinary comfort zone and tried to make a dish with 36 different ingredients that turned out to be a complete disaster. Or that sleepless night during which you decided to bake some cookies at 3 a.m. but added salt instead of sugar.

Writing prompt number 3

‘The food that embodied my childhood’

Food is a huge part of our lives. It tells us something about who we are because it represents our culture, our beliefs, and our personal taste.

Was food a big part of your childhood? Tell us about the traditional family dinners you loved (or loathed) to attend. Explain why you decided to become a vegetarian at 8 years old. And what about that one special dish that reminds you of some great memories?

Your story could be very informative and devoid of any emotion. Or make us beam with delight with your recollection of Saturday mornings spent in the kitchen with your parents and siblings.

If you choose to use one of these prompts to write a story, please add a link to this article and tag me. I’m looking forward to reading it!

Some more inspiration

Writing about the simplest things in life is one of the best ways to get started if you ask me. That’s why I’ve been working on some articles about topics everyone has something to say about. You don’t have to be an expert in anything or have a niche. Just start penning down those words and enjoy the process.
